5'7 Ultra Carbon 95l 6.0kg - great board - only wing use so far, at 77kg it is easy to get going on

Thanks! I'm deliberating the 125 vs 110 at 90kg beginner...edging to the 110 as a longer term bet!

There's a noticeable difference in stability.. I'd recommend the 125 at your weight to start with.. You need to demo first to be sure.. Why make it harder for yourself to learn than it already is.

Just find a shop close by that does what we do.

If someone comes to us to buy a foil board we will sell you the board that is going to be the right size for you long term (which is the time after the learning phase) but instead of sending you out on that board which might be harder to learn on we will lend you a bigger learning board so you can do all the learning phase on this and then once you are ready to go smaller you bring the loaner board back and pick up the board that is perfect for you for really what could be forever.

Makes learning easier and WAY cheaper and you don't end up with a board that is way to big only after a few weeks into the sport.

Starting can be a pain in the wallet.

At 105kg I went: 150, 125, 110, 95, 110UC.

150 was too long but got me going. I can live between the 125/110 combo quite well, 95 was too much hassle on starting in choppy conditions.

Thanks for the feedback!

Sadly cant borrow or demo - straight purchase. The reason i was hesitant to go the 31 inch wide Naish 125 (over the 29 inc wide 110 model) is thats wider than my surf sup i have (JP surf pro 128 and 30 wide, but a pretty pulled in nose and tail that makes it nervous) and wider than the naish crossover 120 (30 inches by 7'4) i have tried to wing with (but wind too light) thats feels OK in terms of bouyancy and stability (90kg). And then combine that with the wide spread view that the learning curve means people seem to chop their original board in within 6 mths. So (some perhaps misguided) logic would maybe say i could go the 110...albeit it might be more challenging to begin with. But at the same time if the 125 felt fine and not too big (can that be the case when you start winging?) then that would be the better option i guess! My local store (150km away) has both models in the shop ready for me to choose, along with my 6m unit..will get them next weekend latest.

Go the 110L. As long as you can kneel on it you will figure out how to set the wing and get up pretty quickly.

At your weight, def. the 125. You'll gain so much more quality time and progress farther.
You loose just a little in carving and pumping. Down the rode you can go to smaller foils or HA's to compensate for that. I have friend who went out on my 105 at your weight and it was a disaster. He was in real world conditions, Knee to thigh high bay chop, current and even though he's solid, getting up was a bitch for him. A real important question is your physical shape and knee health as well. On a nostalgic note, my longboard surfing, knee paddling knobbies on my knees have come back since wing foiling.

Thanks again for the feedback - picking up my new 110 or 125 on Saturday i hope.
I am borrowing a 120 crossover currently and struggled on Saturday in light wind (gusty marginal, 8-13kts - no one was windsurfing and i certainly would not plane with my 7.5 on freerace board) whilst my 16 yr old (80kg) got it dialed pretty quickly ie up on foil in the gusts and blasting back and forth with relative comfort, given he has been at it for less than 1 hour (he also found windfoiling immediately more intuitive for the first handful of sessions than me...damn youth eh). We were using the Ozone 6m and to be honest although i loved the stability i found the sheer size hard work in the light winds - to not catch the tips when pumping the board - im only 5'9 (but of course this is my first real go at this)
Then the wind came up to more like 18+kts (son was on 5.7m and 85 liter windsurf), and i also tried a naish 5.3 wing and it was SO much easier in the stronger wind - two small pumps and up and i was able to fly back and forth for 1/2 k without issue...gybes were impossible though! in the stronger wind (i could have been on my large wave gear), even after a hr or so just blasting and a bit of carving, the 120 already felt too big...maybe too long is actually more accurate (its 7'4 i think)

The smaller the board the lower u will be in the water so catching wing tips increases during early learning stages.
If you have good leg strength then the 110 will be your long term board.
Having said that I have both S25 110 and 125 and the 125 does not feel that much bigger than the 110.
The 125 S25 with pulled in nose and ultra carbon construction is way better than the previous version.
So if you are a slow learner and its an effort to go from kneeling to to standing go the 125 otherwise the 110.
Or if you want one board for Windwing and SUP foiling then definitely the 125.

Thanks Warwick

Had my 2nd session (with wind)...on the 120 and 2000 foil and 5.3 naish yesterday

Pumping goofy footed (i am regular) was hard in light winds..I can't seem to keep my body geometry correct with the Wing. But it was light..a guy was out on a formula windsurf board and 7.5m sail and wasn't planing.
Regular stance pumping a lot more intuitive but still could not translate that into planing

Then the wind picked up from 10kts to 15 to 18kts and it was all good...couple of.pumps and up and away and could do runs for a kilometer and started experimented pumping board in lulls etc. Even caught a small swell line. Actually the 5.3 felt too big in the gusts.

As a longtime windsurfer and Surf SUPer and done some windsurf foiling I and my son have found winging ie to get up and sustain flights WHEN THERE IS WIND remarkably easy...However low winds are proving a lot more difficult to get the technique dialled....i can pump but in light winds its a struggle to translate lift into fwd momentumm. Maybe 5.3 wing is too small as well.

Gybes still impossible..but I've only done 2 foil sessions (3 hrs total). Need to learn to keep feet locked and maintain switch.

Q. Does size board eg 110.vs125 have any bearing on learning to gybe you think?

I don't get why Naish don't publish the weight. I was interested in the 85L version. In the details it states "light weight.." yet doesn't tell you what that is!! If you are spending alot of money on a small board thats a crucial detail to leave out. I couldn't be arsed to find out and it kind of annoys me.. Lol. You wouldn't launch a new car and say "it's really fast.." and then not publish the figures.... Loads of brands do this including Wings... I think brands can be very patronising to us hungry consumers..

Can you tell there's no wind or swell atm...!!

Fyi.. I ordered the 85L v2 Fone Rocket Wing instead with published weight 5.4kgs.

Lighter weights can often mean more fragile and weaker so for me there's a happy medium and as long as it's not super heavy it's not a big deal.

I personally think weight makes a fair bit of difference but each to there own..

My main point was the lack of quality info on products. Leaving out weights on boards, wings etc.. is lazy or suspicious..

While I am a very beginner at gybing both S25 boards are ok. The 125 just provides a more stable platform when dropping off the foil.
The biggest influences are rider's natural ability and foil wing characteristics.

Difference between the 110 and 125 is 4 inches, you would not notice much difference between the two in a gybe or general carving with a wing.

But you will notice the difference coming off the 120 (12 inches longer than the 125). You will lose heaps of swing weight and it will make gybing much easier.
