Hi all
Does anybody have any experience with/ know anything about the Deep Paddle Pop?
I picked up a Deep 'custom' second hand, thinking looked like it could be a goer for small sluggish conditions (it is).
Looking at it i just thought, ok its a sort of v2 minion tale, flattish rocker bottom shape chined rails but with a rounder outline knocked out as a custom. Its a 9'1.
But having just seen the ad in buy&sell i realise its actuall was a production model. Maybe custom size. Dont know if any other tweaks, but looks the same in every other way.
Anyway, it does go well in small sluggish surf, but as always, wondering if anyone with experience with these boards and what fin setup worked and in what kind of conditions?
Thanks in advance
.... did you know you can't thumbs up your own post?, but your own views still add up!

LOL - nice one! The Paddle Pop looks like a solid shape. Never tried one but (like you said) it's a little 'Minion-esque'. With that tail, re. a fin setup, maybe a twin-fin with a knubster in the middle? To me, that tail would give the extra bite in turns, and having the knubster in might be enough instead of a full thruster setup? Disclaimer, not a great surfer, just trying to think through the hydrodynamics of it
yeah, it does go well with lge/med c-drive thruster setup, but seemed to be able to drop into the mush a bit easier with the quads. w darc drive nubster.
.. and in the prevailing local conditions getting into them in the first place is 90% of the job.
was thinking twin w stabiliser too. Might chase up a smaller rear to go with the large c-drive sides.
one from the archives...
The last video near the end of this thread is a cracker.

Hey Casso, whatever happened to the Malibu Pop???
That is my board for sale.
I bought it as at the time, a few years ago and it was a backup board. I had minion's (a couple of them)
I thought they (Minion) were a great board and very stable for the length but very fragile.
I now ride a JP Australia Surf Slate 7'-6' x 29' and it is a really good stable board and very strong.
I am 63 and would consider myself an intermediate sup rider and the fun factor is what I am after.
The Paddle Pop is a great board on the wave but too unstable for me waiting for waves and this takes out the fun of the ride.
Compared to the minion it is less stable but is more responsive on the wave as you would expect from the shape.
I ran it as a quad as it came and never ran it as a thruster so cant comment on that.
I only rode it a few times so is a great board but didn't ride it enough to give a true report.
Hope this is within the rules.
Regards Jim
Cheers Jim, yeah after trying the paddle pop i'm keen to try a minion. Itd have to be one of the larger ones i think,
Where i am its mushburgers or extremely windy and messy or super small ankle slappers. So the board du jour for anyone over 70kg is allrounder longboard style nalus etc. There are a couple of old starboard drives that lighter people do well with.
So my 9'1 paddle pop is a bit of a shortboard considering. I love the way it wants to get in early when i step forward i think that is the crazy bottom contours doing their thing.
And then thinking well, how good would that system be in a longer more parallel shape you could walk up and down make it get along super early on any lumps. With those chined rails flat rocker and massive v between the double near the back itd be a bit like one of those hypr from hawaii. Maybe thats stretching thing a bit...
But yes
CASSO, how did the malibu pop turn out??? i know that was 7 years ago but...
Hope you sell the board no worries Jim. Whoever picks it up wont be disappointed i reckon.
Couldn't resist
7'8 x 27 1/2 x 4 1/8
9'1 x 31 3/4 x 4 1/4
One for the big fella, one for the little fella.
mind you the 7'8 is actually kind of stable... on the flat water anyway but big fella might be tempted to have a crack in the wavy stuff
