I have a hokua le which I like but I'm looking for something more robust. Does anyone know whether the Gtw is a hardier build?
The GTW construction is slightly heavier than the LE construction but it's much stronger and more durable..
What size are you looking for? This is my 9'6"x 32" GTW Hokua.
You're having some fun there, I've got a 9' 29" and want to downsize. 8'6 is the smallest I can see.
I'm pretty unstable on the 29 wide though so not sure if dropping to 28 is wise.
I only get a day every couple of weeks but really like the driving feels of the board on bottom turns and find its relatively easy to pump down the line.
I aim to cutback one day.
A 7'10" or 8'1"" maddog looks smallerbut similar to what I have, any feedback on the construction of those would be helpful.
I'm only 70kg @59years with a prone background in the ancient past.
If you want something impact-resistant and durable, nothing beats a real sandwich construction: two layers of fiberglass or carbon fiber encasing at least 3mm of filling material, most of the time PVC foam. Vacuum bagged is a plus (stronger and lighter), but is more expensive.
In any brand - including the brand I am ambassador of - , do not be fooled by constructions with a wood veneer called "sandwich". The wood layer being less than 1mm is not thick enough to provide a lot of strength. Plus in case of dings, wood will gobble up water and rot, whereas the PVC foam is waterproof.
Basically, you want "PVC sandwich", not "wood sandwich". And on the whole board, not just on the deck.
OK, thanks for that, I have a lot of learning to do
Jimmy Lewis (one of the pioneer of PVC sandwich in surf gear) have made a famous video explaining the difference by showing how it is done, I recommend it!

I like how your car matches the board.

That two wheeler is actually a one wheeler..
I got mine when it was just a Kickstarter campaign and the shipping from the US was nearly as much as the OneWheel itself..
They are available now from Aussie importers.. Good fun but not cheap.
