Hi folks, I love my destroyer but I'm wondering about a change from the thruster set up to a quad?
I don't really have complaints about the current performance.
I do find it had to stand on in any sort of chop but that's partly height and weight (98kg) factors.not to mention nearing 70! Would a quad be more stable just with more fins in the water?!id appreciate any comments.

Hi mate, not ridden a JL but with my Naish Maddog 9x32 switching between a thruster or quad set did not seem to change the stability at all.

Running my Nalu 10x29 with a 10 inch single fin in place of the quad set did seem to add some stability whilst waiting out the back.

I weight around 95 kg and my current boards are a pair of SMIK's, a Mini style lord and a 8'6x31.5 Hipster twin, which has all the stability you would ever need.

I believe that on the shorter surf shapes outline and rocker will have a larger impact on stability than fin size, massive fins might calm the board, but would come at a cost of turning ability.

Cheers.

Stephen.

Quad vs thruster will change how the board tracks when paddling and how it performs on a wave. Quads are easier to drive down the line for speed on smaller waves and give a board a more skatey and loose feeling for me. Thruster gives me more hold on larger waves and also is better for carving turns.

I don't believe there will be any appreciable difference to stability when waiting for waves or paddling. Another personal observation: larger front fins on my Hypernut quad don't make the board feel any more stable, but they make it noticeably slower on waves. I have even proven it with the Dawn Patrol app.
