Looking at purchasing a new paddle. Primarily used for flatwater and touring, occasional ocean paddle. I currently use a Sunova Silver wave, which has a stock standard, 82 blade. Only paddle I've ever used, so unable to compare to others. I am 58 yrs old, 80 kg, had previous shoulder issues, paddle 2x per week/10-12 km each time. I am interested in the KeNalu Kohini paddle. Currently on sale for $499. Their website recommends a 90sq" blade for my weight. Any feedback on this paddle, blade size, shaft options and grip would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
That's a really big blade size for your size and current level of paddling. I would suggest more like 82-84 sqi.
Compare size recommendations from other manufacturers. I think Quickblade has a chart.
If you're going for the KeNalu, the Mana 82 would be the better choice imo, especially in light of your shoulder issues.
The Konihi is harder on the shoulders in my experience.
I am older and the same weight as you and have the Mana 82 and it's perfect so I would go with that.
Awesome feedback, thankyou . Exactly what I was hoping for. Sounds like the Mana 82 is the way to go. Any recommendations re shaft options?
