Got a go on a friends new 7'8 x 28 x 98L back in may. To sum up, I was instantly surfing better on this board, and instantly worse when I gave it back.
I didn't know there are 2 versions, hipster twin and hipster twin pin, but this was the pin.
i found the board really stable, forgiving and nice to paddle. Small clean waves about waist high. I didn't need a couple of waves to learn the board, it just worked great for me from the first wave! The board has really good acceleration/drive and super manoeuvrable. I was worried with the twin fin that if you pushed hard in the bottom turn it would start to lose the back end, but you can push hard and it will hold and accelerate. There's a lot going on with the bottom shape and I guess this works well with the fin set up. Everything felt easier on this board and I was getting my best backside turns ever in just a short session!
Fast, super manoeuvrable, easy, fun. I think it's the magic board, I need one!
I'm 68kg, normally use a sunova Casey revolution 9x26.5x98l, JP pro 8x27x95l, starboard pro 8x28x105l.
I have had an 8'0" hipster for a while now. every time i swapped it with my mate out in the surf , he would disappear up the beach for hours He eventually bought his own................I have 'user' hipster, a pristine 8'0" reserve' hipster ( for when i damage the user), and now also have my eye on an 8'3" hipster pin
They ARE that good
(bonzer, creek, acid, casey, placid, custom - plus anything else that i've moved on - all good in their own way, however none TURN! as ...adroitly?)
I do note a maturation? of surfSUP design that 'works':
Hip, with a narrow/low volume tail
{acid, placid,creek, hipster, spice,B-line etc etc}
Whoa! I was literally emailing Scotty asking if such a board existed about the same time haha. I tried running the twin fins in my new spitfire and about the same weight as you.
Can you elaborate more on the bottom concaves?

I thought about trying that fin set up on my 8x28 starboard, but I really think it's something in the whole combination that brings the magic! Would be fun to try though, how did it go?! From what I remember the hipster twin pin has a deep double concave running through the tail section and I think with a pronounced V.
I found that rounded pins work very well on SUPs, even more than on prone surfboards.
I don't know if it is because the added smoothness to the rail to rail (compared to a square tail) helps moving around these bulkier boards, or because extra volume on a SUP mitigates the lower efficiency of the round pin in weak waves, but I definitively got hooked on the feeling for SUPs.
Agree colas, every sup I've ever had with a rounded pin has been awesome. It's my favourite tail of choice. That and also a swallow tail
Pintails !love them! That's only part of why the Jimmy Lewis Destroyer is such a great sup design, and brilliant to surf
I stopped in to have a look at one of these in the flesh the other day and the first thing that struck me was how chunky the rails are in the top half of the board. I'm not sure if this was on optical illusion or not but how would that affect it on the wave face? I looked like it would be a bit bouncy, or does the bottom magic come into play?

I went up to surffx and got the same impression , so i decided to return with one of my 8'0" hipsters and put them side by side

I'm also a very happy 8' hipster (swallow tail) rider. Very interested to hear about the emergence of a 'pin' model, so looking forward to your comparison moogengronko.

Gronks ,what was the result!, I to have seen and commented on this in the past ,imo the starboard, way to much volume / connection thing ,the boards seem to go ok,but way to much volume swing weight for me ,but there's a lot of happy campers out there who love them ,just saying.
G'day Fellas.
firstly I'll show you the file which shows the forward rail profile in the nose isn't much different and by no means at all, makes the boards any bouncier. (O contrair as black adder used to say)
The trait of the twin pin is how much smoother the rail to rail transition is compared to the swallow.
The black line in the twin pin and the blue line is the old hipster twin. Slightly narrower with more rocker and very similar rail profile
So what I gather you're seeing is the volume on a narrower nose, along with the fabric in straight lines possibly having an optical illusion the curved light blue lines.
So far from all the people whom have received their boards (And actually ridden them apart form hypothesising), especially which the boards just delivered to Hawaii and the US Mainland the response has been exceptional.
Gary Hashimoto from hawaii- " The board has been working great for me! Been ripping waves (2-3 Hawaiian) with hard bottom turns and snappy top turns. Waiting to try it in larger surf. This board is a true quiver killer! Need to sell some of my other boards. Thanks for creating an awesome board! Aloha,
Gary Hello Scotty! Well I took her out in thigh to up to stomach high weak but glassy surf. The board is absolute magic! It checked all the boxes and even added a few more. Gosh, it must be amazing to create pieces of art that make people happy. May God continue to bless you and yours with health and happiness.

UnFUGGING Believable What a playful ripper this board is TNX champ.

Anyways.
The photos you see of Jonah was the day I did back to back testing between the 8'10 Pintail and the 8'10 swallow tail. Far bigger than I would normally be riding.
But jeez it highlighted how smooth the pin went. Certainly no bouncing.
But I also highlighted the turbo the swallow still has down the line

Well I'm sold and just ordered the 8/3 as my Perth Metro go to board
Phil
Crikey, how many boards is that now ????
Scott! Thanks for chiming in with the shape and rail profiles. Hugely helpful to see it like that. Good to know the pin has a bit more rocker too. For those of us with steep beach-break waves, it's helpful.
When are these gonna be coming to the US more? My good friend Kerry just scored a 7'10 hipster pin and I want the 8' so badly!
If I could get my hands on the 8' hipster pin I think it'd make a killer quiver of two alongside my Kalama 9'2.

?????? when is enough enough Dave but at the moment I am down to three so need to stock up
Seb ,all the smiks I have had ,and I have had many, have all had a type of fcs compatible multi box ,and I have had 3 finbox failures .One board I still have has had 3 of the four boxes replaced, the latest one was done locally ,and they found the box was installed with a hot mix melting the foam to such a degree that there was no support other than the glass/ carbon layer so I'm presuming the other 2 were the same,,this particular board is ,one of his early models ,I hope this has been addressed ,currently.I personally moved on from this manufacturer/product sometime ago as I pay full retail, and cannot afford to be constantly paying for repairs as well.
Do these boards come with FCS 1 boxes? If so, any plans to change to FCS 2 in the future?
I have fcs2 in mine, you can get whatever you want with a custom.

Sadly I am not in Aus, so custom is not an option.
