Now the world is opening up again and travel is on the cards I was keen to take a 10' along to certain destinations and was wondering about the 2 piece sunova borads. You dont really see much feedback about the design anymore so Iam supposing the design really didn't work too well for a surf sup???
Has anyone had one? Any thoughts on the design and any issues, was this just a fad more suited to downwinders?
HI Dave i had a 9 done in 2 piece it had 130 litres ,it does add weight to the board mine was also a high rocker board ,
Its a good idea ,but felt it is best suited to 10 foot boards plus and with more volume and glide so the weight isn't so noticeable , so yeah it will make it easy to carry on planes ,

Don't give up on the idea yet.
I own a 10' Surf in 2 piece. The board was bought exclusively for travel. In this regard it works very well. In Europe the airlines have become stricter at enforcing weight and length criteria, using overages as an opportunity to charge. Some have even reduce length criteria to 2.5m or even 2m to generate more overage revenue.
As for the board itself. First is perception, surfers are pretty "traditional", resistance to change is evident on almost every beach to go to ; ). If you own 1, someone will comment.........
When it comes to how they surf, please believe my when I say great... A little heavier, a little stiffer in the mid section, but step back and for most of the time only the tail and rear section rail is engaged. In reality, after your 1st session it's just another board.
Now I accept that I don't own a high performance board and I'm not smashing the lip on double overhead. If that's what you have in mind then it has it's limitations. But for almost everything else I'm on a very capable board.
If the choice is to travel with a short board that's hard work and/or wave specific, inflatable or 2 piece. I know which I'd have

I travel with a 10'6" Sunova Surf split board because it's practical to fit in our motor home which has no roof access for racks.
I really like the board and it's fine for my standard and only surfing small waves. It's a bit thick amidships, but has to be to accommodate the joining rods.
So it is what it is. Faced with not taking a board with me I'd put up with any limitations.
