Would love to hear everyone's thoughts on the new tr3?
I've been running my flow in tr3 for a little bit now and it seems fairly solid it seems to mark easy but does not cause damage. I have also noticed water stains on my board from small trips home from the beach in a board bag. Even though I dry most of it but obviously not enough.
How has everyone else found the tr3?
I'm currently runnin' the 9'4 Creek in TR3 Nug, and find it bullet proof.
Definitely picked up the usual nicks and marks from the occasional paddle whack- especially after the last few weeks of fairly decent juice, we've scored up here but apart from that - nothin'.
Performance is excellent and as usual for Sunova, incredible quality.
I'm goin TR3 on my next board for sure.
sweet looking board Mango ,.
no problem with mine either nug ..a few paddle marks ..but seems to be just as strong .
I Still like the balsa look though ...
Just for a different perspective, I've not had a good experience. Repaired the snap and took it out in 2ft river mouth mush and it creased.
Also had a Sunova shortboard delam on me but it wasn't TR3, only parabolic balsa rails. I've got a starboard starlight board now and the efficacy of the construction is much stronger and durable. I appreciate a lot of punters here have positive experiences with Sunova but mine is not the only board I'm aware of that has snapped.
Same here, seen one snap, collapse deck and timber staining . I personally love their product but would only purchase xxxtec, which has reinforced eye beams and balsa flex ????
I've had 5 Sunova's, all xxx-tec. Only damaged 1, which was my fault (hit a shallow reef).
My current longboard Sunova sup has had 400+ surfing days with only slight foot welling (and i've been a heavy lug - from 98kg up to 116kg). I cannot fault them.
Any board can snap when in the wrong situation. The one board that was universally known to snap in 2 was the Naish Nalu Pro carbon from a few years back. Naish changed the construction and I don't believe it's an issue now, which is sweet as the shape is awesome.
A few months back I contacted Dylan @ Sunova and asked about durability of Tr3 due to comments on this forum and he assured me they have it dialled now. I believe him.
My 9"5-10"0 in Sunova are TR3 and no issues. I had a 12"0 pointbreak in TR3 and didn't like it at all. Then purchased a 14"0 search in XXX and love it. Have reordered the pointbreak in XXX as it's a great shape. In the shorter boards I think TR3 is fine. Anything longer you need XXX
I have a Placid 8.3 in TR3, I also have Flow & Shroom in XXXTec. The Placid "feels" lighter and hasn't yet dinged.. My XXXTecs have been thrashed and still look good as new.. well maybe not the Flow, thats got a paddle whack on the nose but still looks good.
Hoping I don't put myself in a position where I get barrelled and the board(s) break..
I prefer the XXX tech ones...not saying the TR3 are bad...all my boards are XXX...but the look for me is better...
Funny how everyone is in the same boat. I still haven't decided if I want to spend the money on a tr3 board. But if I want a xxx it's waiting untill December which is a bit too far away.
One option is to get them to "paint" it. I am buying an 8'8 Flow 2.0 which is TR3 but the one they had in stock was red. If it is red enough it probably won't matter if it is XXX or TR3. I hope TR3 and XXX are equally strong...
