could i get a 8/8 speed with a bit more width&volume.i have a 8'10 sunjam carbon about 130 volume but would like to go bit shorter. been surfing about 50 years ,18 months on a sup and loving it .i have come down from a 10 foot by 32 inch and going well.
Welcome to Seabreeze ONEBACK!
If you are in or around SYDNEY we have over 20 Sunovas in demo at Balmoral Paddlesurf if you want to try a couple first.
SUNOVA also makes custom if you cannot fond one that suits.
Cheers Andrew.A
Hello Oneback
I just recently got myself a 9,2 speed best board by far i have ever owned and have had a few. I came off a 8,9 fanatic allwave. I was tossing up between the 8,10 and 9,2. In hindsight I should have went the 8,10...just gives me a reason to buy myself a xmas present ..I am 100 kg dry and been on sups for 6 years now. I would love to demo the 8,8 but i think it may be too much effort for my weight..ps is that picture of boatramp bendalong? great wave when pumping
hi. yes it is bendalong ,got to be lucky .i am 85kg so it is 8,8 or 8,10 .hope to demo both at the merimbula classic
I'm on an 8'8 Speeed and I'm 103kg. The wide nose makes it a stable board for the size. I had no problem going from a 8'2x32 130L starboard widepoint. You could go custom, but I'm not sure you need to.
agree, the wide nose and balsa makes these boards quite stable for the narrow widths. that is once you get used to them.
others have said it and i seem to believe, the balsa seems to make these boards float better than their volume.
i.e. i recon my 94l 7'11 floats more like a 98-100l board. maybe its just a 'feel'

Archimedes is shouting "it is just a feel" while rolling in his grave :-)
At 85 kg the 8 8 should be fine for you - if you look at them together the 8 10 looks like a lot more board. if you want it more to cruise and be comfortable, go the 8 10 but if you want unleash the benefits of the speed i'd say go the 88.
having said that I am selling my 88 - no problems with the board at all, and it overall i'm a huge fan and would say it matches the hype. just wrong choice for the specific gap in my quiver and the waves I normally surf - I have a 7 10 minion I love (at 123 odd litres) and wanted something to use in all conditions/worse conditions and not as much work. the 88 speed at same volume is way more stable and easier but I reckon they excel in faster waves where you can really use the narrow rails and magic tail and carve turns. I come from a lot of time on a 8 4 simsup 32 wide which is perfect for mushier waves and I found the speed didn't maximize my normal waves as well as that sort of thing. also I picked up a used stretch minion which seems to fit more what I wanted (and was on my list when I looked at the sunova) so I've decided to move the speed on.
you might want to talk to sunova about a custom speed - that is where I started out talking to them, something shorter than the 88 and a bit wider (a bit like part way to the new shroom shape, but less width and a pulled in tail). I guess I just keep looking for that magic board that does everything and ultimately it is hard to get it all in one board! but if I was to explore a new board right now to sort of do it all that would be something i'd definitely look at.....
hi thanks for the import i will wait for a demo day still having fun on the sunjam in most the waves around here.
