Everyones geting into BOP style racing and with the interest myself, Jacko and Troy Pease are going to run a race on the Gold Coast at Currumbin every three weeks or so.
It will be a training run.
No Costs to enter.
Flat water in Currumbin Creek.
Starting at 12 NOON.
1. 12.6's and 14 footers for 1st race.(40-50mins approx)
2. Kids Race(Starts when 1st race finishes)
3. Surfing style SUP Boards for second race(starts when kids race finishes.
25-35mins approx)
Meeting on the Southern side of the creek, inside sand bank(west) at CURRUMBIN ALLEY.
The ides is to enhance BOP racing and attract more people to the sport, thus flat water racing. If numbers are good and things progress well we will look at a surf training sessions.
The times let people travel from Sunny Coast and NthNSW to participate.
The Surfing style boards let the beginner experience the sport and then hopefully progress to race boards. Same with the kids (u18 and u21???)
1st training day - SEPTEMBER 10
Registrations at 11:30
Bouys out by 11:30(course set)
A chance to mix, swap ideas, catch tips, techniques, drills, try boards out and progress the sport
Hey Pete,
Thats gonna be a winner! Keep it simple, keep it regular, keep the fun in it. The winners are the participants. Prize money, trophies, sponsorship, insurances etc all just make it difficult.
BOP style race practice is a hoot! We will be organising the same over here as soon as we get our new gear. Get ready Perth!
DM
I think you will get a few from the Sunshine Coast. We spoke about it last week about getting a group to go down for one of the Goldie's training sessions. Always good to get fresh ideas off others.
KISS Principle
And the old story
"IF YOU BUILD IT THEY WILL COME"
Having a chance to have a hit out against the best in the world and even get in their ears about their secrets, experiences etc.
Sounds great, Thanks for thinking of us and making the times accessible for us Sunny Coasters.
The Goldy crew are smashing it! It will be awesome to be able to paddle along side you guys.... or perhaps just in front of... Ha ha!!
All true all true
This is going to help get professional events up and running, such as you guys are doing on the Sunny Coast in November. It lets people start somewhere.
No rush no hassle.
Gets the numbers involved which bring in the sponsors too.
In the end EVERYONE benifits
Sounds like a great idea! Would be cool if there were a few more ocean/downwind type races here on the goldy too.
We have had really good intrest in doing these little events already and am stoked everyone is keen to come and join in on the fun!!! Myself and Ang are spewing we will miss the first one but we will be back for the next one for sure!!
With Pete and Troy running it i'm sure it will be a great day and everyone will learn alot thats for sure!!
Jacko
How fantastic. I will come for sure. Will try to drag some Outriggers over to the sport as well. Thanks for organising.
Lots of girls/ladies are keen and ready to enjoy their first jump into BOP paddling.
Really keen to see some of the kids get around. Bring your own children/nephew/nieces down. Some boards avaiable, but if anyone wants to lend out there board for the kids to do a 2 lapper on let us know
im a little confused...not hard really. Its being run as a BOP style event...BUT in flatwater??? Is that correct
Yes thats correct
To attract the paddler who would not venture out in the surf.
And Travis wont get away from you on the waves.
Mosrt of the Alley crew will train in the morning and race at NOON.
Travis Grant will give a small chat on technique and racing while the kids arre out churning up the course.

The SUPSA committee has decided to change our initial date of Sunday, to now run in conjunction with the event on Saturday 10th.
Venue : Currumbin Creek, western side of the Alley car park (Where the swimming enclosure is)
Time : 12 noon for 12'6” and big boards
Kids race straight after
Followed by Surfing style SUP board race
*Travis Grant will be there to have a chat to all interested in SUP paddling and racing.
This idea is to enhance Battle of the Paddle style racing and attract more people to the sport, thus flat water racing.
The Surfing style boards let the beginner experience the sport and then hopefully progress to race boards. Same with the kids! (any age)
This is a chance to mix, swap ideas, catch tips, techniques, drill's, try different boards and progress the sport of SUP.
If anyone wants to race but hasn't got a board, I have a 14' Fanatic someone can use. Just message me and I'll bring it to the race.
