Currumbin is my regular haunt on the SUP, but I tend to find that when the banks and wind on the beach front side are holding up ok, there will be 2 suppers out the front and about 20 on the alley side. There can be some quality waves on the beach front, definitely a lot punchier and less people to run over. Do any of the folks here have an aversion to beach breaks? I get the sense a lot of the suppers hang out in alley because that's where everyone else is.
Lol most suppers go the alley cause it's an easy paddle out, beaches can be great fun, but hard work.

I've noticed that too, the limited amount of sessions i've had there. I find the right hander works pretty nice from the alley/river mouth, but tends to close out a bit further north (on the beach break).
I agree with your theory that everyone hangs out together - the same mentality exists in kitesurfing. "Hunt with the pack", I guess.
I always try to avoid the crowds, in both sports. I've got no issue with beach breaks. I surf mainly open beach breaks, they can be fun, short rides provided you are happy to challenge yourself in the paddle back out.
Paddling through beach breaks definitely requires enough patience to wait for lull and not get caught out by the sets

Yup! and the ability to just hold on and take a beating!!
