Thumbs Up

Just did my second down winder in as many days here on the Sunny Coast.
Conditions have been pretty good with the wind from the south and only small swell.
Both runs were from Mooloolaba spit to Mudjimba.
Sun: Wind fairly light at about 15+ knots from the South, however the swell was very small and there were good runners to be had. I was getting some really nice ones even linking 2 and 3 together.
Mon: Wind was a little stronger at around 20 knots from the SW at first then a rain squall came through about half way turning the wind SSE. Once again some good runners until the squall mainly, after that it got a very messy. The swell was also bigger today by about 2 feet.

I was quicker on the first run by about 15 mins although the wind was around 5 knots lighter. I put it down to being easier to catch the runners, due to less swell and chop messing them up and getting in the way. Less effort spent keeping balanced etc, allowing more effort to paddle into the runners.

Saw Wadeo down there launching at the same time as me on Sunday, trying out his new Falcon. He was just doing a quicky to Maroochydore. He went straight to M'dore whereas I paddled around the corner a bit to Pt Cartwright in order to get out in a bit more wind, then pointed the Glide GX north.

All in all Sundays run was the best I've had. I am thinking maybe doing more down winders in lighter wind. Maybe the Glide is better in those conditions, or maybe it's me, don't know? Actually more likely both.

Cheers,
Ken.
