Gopro Hero 3 Black Edition

I'm about to purchase the new Gopro but need advice as to the most useful mounts and accessories.

The orange float attachment seems to be essential. Do I need a recharger, extra batteries etc?

Any recommendations will be gratefully received!

I have most of them, i use the suction mount the most, on my board with an evilbay helmet arm, around the helmet arm i put a piece of pool noodle (yellow so it is easy to see) and will float the whole lot. the floaty back door only floats the camera and will sink with most mounts attached. The arm also gets the camera up a little higher for a better shot.

ive used the head mount but you cant use floaty back door as the camera wont tilt up enough..

handle bar mount is good on the paddle gives great shots but throws the paddle out of balance its ok when you get used to it.

I havn't stuck a mount to my board or paddle yet (i have the surf mounts and black ones) as not yet sold on a permanent mount.

I think you need a fail so you wouldn't tear the deck in a stack/bail out.

I had the suction cup come off once when my board and another board slide deck grip to deck grip in the surf and knocked the camera off.

And my old suction cup (gopro one) snapped in the surf the small plastic part behind the silicon cup snapped leaving the cup on the board and top half on the deck.

using the chest mount makes you violently ill when watching your vids,

Ram mount do a pole mount sort of thing that could rival dj's downwind mount

but all ram mount stuff isnt cheap

what you use will depend on what your doing and the risk of loosing the camera.

My advise is to just get the GoPro Silver.. and the only accessory to get is the vented bicycle helmet mount [less than $20 ]
Make sure you keep the square plastic mount that the camera comes on in the packaging.. You can duct tape that to your paddle or your board.. (I don't trust or like the suction mounts.. I've had a few).. Maybe also get the fog strips.. and the floaty thing but I don't use them.. and maybe RainX to help stop water drops on the lens..
also.. Plug your camera in to charge the battery.. and take the card out to transfer video files.

Unless you want to film exploding apples as a bullet passes though it the Silver does a very good slo-mo.. Plus most of us make our vids in 720 to reduce the file size and speed up the long upload/download times.. Also myself and two friends have the remote and never use it.. IMO it's more trouble than it's worth... I guess if you're rich and can afford it get the Black.. Film on 720.. and don't use the remote..

Hands down the GoPro Hero 3+ is the best camera I have owned in a very long time. I held off buying a Go Pro until this model came out.
The extra width and height the Hero3+ captures makes bouncy action sports a lot easier to watch. I haven't used it on my surf SUP yet but once the winter swells roll in it will be my next GoPro adventure. Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think the other models have the wider and taller screen capture. As DJ mentioned the Wifi remote is not much use but the remote viewing to iphone, I found, is a great feature on the Wifi models for helping to get the alignment and framing right before you start shooting.

For me, surfing only, the wifi remote is an absolute must have.

Nice not to have to scour two-three hours of footage for the waves. With the remote, the waves are already highlighted.

I'm hopeless, I've got the black and every accessory known to man: I don't use the wireless remote though. I'm in fiji at the moment and bought a set of goggles with a go pro mount built in. Start my open water dive course tomorrow so that will be cool, I put mounts on RC CARS on the skate r amps at home which is fun too. Get the case so ya can charge it directly and put it on time lapse somewhere, it's awesome on storm fronts. I got a good extendable pole and got some good footage of a sea snake yesterday as well without getting bitten. Missus bought me the drone last week so I will have to figure that out now. Only limits are your imagination and ya budget
