Got a 10' 31" new deal for tiny summer waves. A nice addition to the quiver. Wanted the bigger one to catch everything.
My standard quiver is the Sunova SP25 8'8 and Quatro Glide 8'6.
First off, the New Deal is insane. Fast, loose, turns, trimming machine, catches everything. Handles overhead waves.
Been trying to really dial the fins in.
For the most part I like my boards very loose and skatey. I usually like smaller fins.
Been trying so many different combos. Dave recommended the fins that came with the board (pretty much standard thruster "Angry xl with a slightly smaller trailer), but the sides are too big. Tried it with a smaller trailer... better but still a bit stiff. Tried with two small side bites and a 7" center. It was ok.
Found the magic setup. Two Future small side bites with the FCS2 Center. The board went amazing! see pic.
I did not think this set up would work bc the small side bites and the FC2 center is only 5.5".
I think the standard thruster would have worked well in a smaller New Deal but for the bigger 10' I needed to reduce the side bites to give the board more pivot.
Great board. It will make summer super fun here on the east coast of the US.
Oh yea. Finally got my new Quabba fins- Large side/med center. for the Sunova SP25...
WOW! The combo of the Sunova and the Quobba fins, it was crazy good. They complement each other. It was just over the top! Thank you RW for your help!
I too have a new New Deal and find the stock fins a bit much.. I guess they might suit more powerful surf but I found them too stiff/too much hold. I'm using same side fins as you but trying a 7 inch middle..this is my usual set up. In using my usual 2 +1 I will get a better idea of how I need to ride the board, rather than changing out the fins again. I have a couple of smaller centre fins too.but don't want to under fin it for my purposes. Mine is a 9,6.
