one thing I'm very curious about these superfoods that have x amount more vitamins and minerals than ordinary food , is how much does your body actually absorb and use?. It seems these foods only grow in exoctic faraway places deep in the amazon or high in Tibet So if an orange contains a certain amount of vitamin c and product x from mount wo woo contains 500 times more . does your body use and retain the extra in the woo woo over the orange or do you just piss it out along with your hard earned Downwinder ill have a guinness session with you , as long as you shout , LoL,
Shout for shout TT I'm a tight arse but not a scab.
I'm not sure about baking soda but I believe in a balanced diet, these are indeed the best nuts on Earth, and this is the best beer on Earth.
Organic activated nuts, they are expensive but you can buy a 10 pack in bulk, nuts are quite high in fat so you don't want to go overboard on them anyway.
I have no idea why Australia is completely incapable of making a decent beer anymore but the Italians certainly know the finer points about making a sweet drop, these are the imported Peroni longnecks BTW, not that Aussie made imposter marketed as "imported beer".
Maxeaus australia still makes a great beer its the three tier world monopoly on beer distribution is the problem and yes you are right, alcohol corporates thinking people are stupid enough to buy beer that is made in Australia or other countries and think its the same. ITS NOT THE SAME. GO TO A GOOD JAPENESE Restaraunt and you will be offered the good Japenese beer. The first time I was offered the gold label sapporo beer the waiter smiled and said this is the good one. Yes we know its cheaper to make beer in Australia than import it.
And yes the beer drinkers of Australia know your are trying to make more profits you beer suits.
I actually believe the best beer on earth is the special fransiskaner dunkel oltoberfest beer from a bottlo in munich. Its the law in Munich that beer has to be only made out of four natural ingredients since 14th century and those breweries have been refining for the last 600 odd years.
My best beer I have ever drunk was at the Andechs beer monastry just out of Munich. it was a litre of pure gold.
I think corona is the only beer that is still made in country of origin and shipped over here, out of the popular beers.
If you have the opportunity to head down to the lord nelson brewery in Sydney you can still have a fine aussie beer. I actually love the little creatures pale ale in the pint glass. My favourite was at the Australian pub in the rocks it just taste the best to me.
Yes German purity laws certainly make a mockery of our clear lack of any laws relating to what is an "international beer" in Australia, obviously we do make good beer, its just not that easy to find it when you are out at a club or a restaurant, you generally have the main Aussie beers and then the main Aussie "International beers", and how is it we tolerate this farce of "made in New Zealand" in regards to produce which originates in China???, its a rather sad state of affairs really, just like all the fast food restaurants that dominate the landscape wherever you go, I sometimes wonder how in Gods name we got to this terrible destination of poor nutrition and dodgy marketing of food stuffs and beverages.
Maxeaus I agree with your comments when eating out it is almost impossible to find any decent beer when eating out at a club or restaurant I just give up. Its easier to have water.
My frustrating WTF moment came when I was discussing the local made imported beer trend with a friend who worked in a bottlo and we went out to dine in a chain japanese restraunt in CBD. We were given a kirin which was brewed in Canada. We were both shocked. How can it be cheaper to ship beer here from Canada than Japan. Why would you bother?
How can the beer be IMPORTED when its brewed in Australia or NZ.
The government needs to step in.

SUPing s exciting - clearly more exciting for some!!

good marketing
Reminds me of Joe Dirt calling himself Joe Dir-Te
Guys don't knock it if you haven't tried it, until you have your organic nuts activated you don't know what you are missing out on.
I'm interested in Laird's ideas. But I was told that baking soda leads to unexpected erections. Something to do with the alkaline effect on the blood, he said. Can anyone confirm that this is true? I don't really want HTSS (hair-trigger stiffy syndrome) in eg. the workplace, or when I'm with my mum. Or at church. Or at the Post Office. Or when driving my mate Darren to his SUP classes. It would be inappropriate and embarrassing. No-one ever seems to talk about the side-effects of these dietary supplements, although they are always mentioned with prescription drugs, which seems a bit odd to me.

If I knew how I'd quote your post above too, but the board shorts over the wetsuit may not need further explanation.

Just had a flashback to the daily teenage torment of the school bus
Next week: Laird eats a packet of dental floss, and
everyone gets a stiffy over it.
Laird said let their be waves, lol and behold the waves come forth
Good topic... just read it all.... thanks, I needed this.
Paleo took me from 138 kg to 92 kg in a year.... and easy to do, but liked around 97 kg best, and found it easy to maintain.
I was on a road trip from mid March till April 30.... and gained 10 kg.
Being away from my kitchen was hard. I don't possess iron willpower.
I tried to stay faithful, but you get "Road creep" and it's easy to get sidetracked.
My performance SUP is a struggle thee days, so I needed a kick in the can.
I am going to borrow a lot of thoughts from this thread
Yeah sometimes it seems that there is almost a conspiracy to keep the population fat. It is difficult and expensive to eat healthily when away from home, and travelling. We in Western societies really need to seriously address our relationship with food, and the food business.
IMO it is foodstuffs with low biological value that make people fat. You eat this crap, and because it has so few nutrients in it, your body tells you that you need to keep eating. So you eat more than you need. Whereas if you eat really fresh healthy food, your body says "thanks, you can stop eating now" when it's had enough.
So the problem to my mind isn't so much about calories. It's about how the crap food we are encouraged to eat makes us feel hungry. If you don't want to feel hungry, just eat a low calorie meal that contains a fantastic array of different healthy and natural foodstuffs. It will make you feel more full than a 2000 calorie takeaway burger and fries. It's counterintuitive but true.

G'day supthecreek can I give you a few pointer that may help you.
Buy a good Blender - not a Nutri Bullet they are s@#t
Blend 2 VEGETABLE GREEN SLIMS a day - you'll be jumping out of you skin, put then in an esky if your out for the day.
If you like Sardines have a can of water based Sardines at Lunch with your Blend everyday the calcium in your bones will thank you for it.
I'm of to Maui in a few weeks so I take my own Sardines with me it's a very easy quick fix food for Lunch in-between Maliko Runs
Like you I'm a Paleo man I love meat I eat around 70 kilos of meat a year the average is 45 kilos for a man my size, My blood type is O positive so if I don't eat enough meat my body feels week and sick. After a good Steak I'm jumping out of my skin like a little grommet of ADHD thats had a glass of Red Cotties Cordial.
If your traveling and must eat take away go to the Fish & Chip shop and only ask for a piece of Grilled Fish then go across the road to the Fruit & Vege shop and buy some coloured vegetables so you can eat and run e.g. like carrots, bean, snow peas, etc thats what I do simple.
Hey Laird is riding a longboard with a paddle there.
Thanks for the info on the sardines Downwinder, did you watch gourmet farmer on sbs this season about fish stocks in Australia.
Very interesting watching.
I am going green smoothy route this spring, as my friend does it and he states that his skin was the biggest improver more than weight loss.
I really would like to do a study on red cordial with children too. ha ha.
im very far from a expert.
I have heard be careful of the fish you eat if you eat a lot. The higher up the food chain the more heavy metals they have in them.
re red meat, the cancer council recommend only 500g per week to be away from certain triggers.
As far as eating for blood type.......I havent heard any science behind that one yet

husq2100 You'll find people who are O positive blood group tend to not burn out as quickly as people with the other blood types when it comes to training and can go that extra distance without over training "it's been proven"
Yes the bigger the fish the more mercury it will have "Sardines are very high in calcium and are at the bottom of the food chain"
Yes True about Red Meat but my body loves red meat so I don't care about or give a @#@# the cancer Red meat my give me. My insides are looking good from the yearly blood test I get every year, so I'll keep eating what I'm eating.
If you watch SBS on a Monday night watch this bloke Michael Mosley is a British television journalist, producer and presenter who has worked for the BBC since 1985. He is probably best known as a presenter of television programmes on biology and medicine. I'm a very big fan of Michael Mosley, Michael Mosley had a good segment on red meat a few years back, very interesting.
Here's a couple of books for you husq2100 they are excellent, to help make your, judgement.
I started taking Green Tea Extract on the recommendations of a diet & exercise book. Quickly I started having full-blown migraines, with aura, photophobia, vomiting etc. Nothing would stop the pain and after 12-48 hours of it in a darkened room, the pain was so bad that I started to think that if this was a regular thing I'd consider if life was worth living.
I'd never had migraines before in my adult life. I stopped taking the green tea extract and the migraines stopped. I've never had one since - and several years have passed.
If I had been in a difficult position when one of these attacks had come on (eg on my own a long way from anyone else - maybe even offshore on my SUP), there could have been very serious consequences. The visual disturbances and loss of balance were profound - I couldn't do anything except lie down and moan with pain.
A lot of people who don't know what they are talking about are making a lot of money peddling and recommending all manner of unproven and possibly dangerous crap. Don't be a mug (like I was). Recognise BS when you see it. If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

Amen to that, people have been peddling snake oil since the dawn of time, to make a dollar of suckers.

Good reason to check for other sources of information on whatever supplement you are thinking of taking.
Easy to do nowadays with the internet.
Even then, test and monitor - take a small amount and monitor how it affects you.
I've learned, not as dramatically as you did, but, that it is often not a good idea to plunge into this stuff
Even if you got information from a reliable source. Some supplements do affect some people differently than others
for various reasons. Best to research & test and monitor.
Yeah, lots of snake oil out there (prescription stuff too - watch for the side effects).
