So stoked to be back Downwinding Maliko I left the Brisbane airport yesterday at 6:35PM and arrived in Kahului 11:30AM today got picked up at the airport and straight to Maliko Gulch for a Downwind paddle conditions where pumping with 15-18knot winds got some all time runners everyone was out there from Dave Kalama, Jeremy Riggs to Connor Baxtor. Conditions are looking so good all week with 20+ knot winds “Yes Please Mr Wizard” 6 weeks of Downwind bliss. My last paddle was about 3 weeks ago I paddled from Brunswick Heads to Currumbin Alley 50 kilometre's, had a good escort of Dolphins hanging near the bow of the board. Haven’t done this run since 2010 for when I was training for the M20 solo, I was on my 17’6’’ Bullet (magic board). WindGuru conditions was supposed to be SSE at 20 knots but the wind had a lot of West in it, it took me 4 hours 40 minutes which is still a OK time. I'd rate the conditions 5/10 but from Cook Island to Currumbin Alley the last 12 kilometres was f@#@# BRUTAL. If it was SSE the last 12 kilometres I recon I could do it in 4 hours 15 minutes. Been over in Samoa for a few months I broke all my surfboards so came home early. The place has some grunt Boulders would be a very good wave to SUP it’s a great lefthand point break I surfed it 4-6ft with the odd 8ft set. The place can hold 20ft

G'day ETLike you the other day I went for a bit of a fitness paddle in the canal last week I hit the canal around 4AM as there was going to be no wind and no surf for that day (I like paddling that time of a morning) anyway I was keen to pump out 30k so I could be finished by 7:30AM by the time I hit the 10 k mark I had to stop I felt like vomiting as my toes where in so much pain so I went home jumped in the shower and the pain from the warm shower hitting my feet where in excruciating pain I'd hate to feel what frost bit is all about, that night channel 9 news said it got down to like 2.4 degrees. You've got to make the journey to Maui ET Maliko is so much fun, the people the place the vibe it's just THE BEST

G’day PeterP Epic Maliko condition again today with 20 knot winds I ran out of board from standing so far back on the board surfing, how go is it when you can do a 15km run in under 65 minutes tomorrow the winds are going to be stronger in the 25 knot range. I saw Kai Lenny’s new 14ft Naish, Kai is a legend. Ya Pete wish you were here paddling Maliko with me. You wouldn’t recognise me I look like Starvin Marvin the little Ethiopian I’m 8 kilo’s lighter than last year been working on the core strength. August 2015 I might come to South Africa surf J-Bay I was last there in 94 or I may got back to Timor I’ll wait and see. If I go to J-Bay we’ll catch up.

DW. How many runs do
You get in a day? How long is the average time on the run? I assume it's just a highway of traffic out there this time of the year.. I think I remember reading once you leave your big boards over there. If planning a trip is it worth taking a 14" over with me or better to hire/buy something there? Many people using 14ers or most going with the bigger SICs?

Maliko was like an 8/10 yesterday with 25 knot wind just surfed the whole way (it's like a highway out there with so many SUP paddlers you feel good when your going as fast as a OC1 paddler) had a good Maliko time one hour for 15 kilometres "Yes Please Mr Wizard." Dave Kalama does it in like under 57 minutes but he's like the worlds best and paddles a 19ft board. I was taking with Dave Kalama and Mark Raaphorst yesterday about board design the latest design is having a very thin flat nose that goes thick very quickly, it’s for when your going super fast the board will plow through the ocean swells easier e.g. not slow you down when you bury the nose. I buried the nose of my bullet yesterday on a big swell and it throw me in the air like a wild bronco "too funny." I’ll do about 2 to 3 Maliko runs a day I just love it, I make the most of my short time here on Maui. You’ve got to be like a little grommet that has ADHD thats had a glass of Red Cotties Cordial that goes (cruses) at 100mph. I’d like to do a 4th Maliko run in a day but it's just to hard sorting out lifts.
It’s easier just to hire a 14fter here, but mostly everyone is paddling unlimited boards even the women that weigh 50/60kg are paddling unlimited boards. I leave a board and paddle here on Maui. I believe Fiji Air take big board as they use to in the past with no dramas.
Got the Pai'lolo channel crossing next week Maui to Molokai 47 kilometres can’t wait it’s going to be bulk fun
Here's a write up on SUP Racer. www.supracer.com/sic-downwind-month/
Doing a 3 Man Team Molokai to Oahu“it’s going to be BULK FUN” with Mark Raaphorst he’s the guy who makes theses SIC board, he’s a top bloke and a very good paddler. I've done M2O solo a few times in the past but it’s a full on 7 months of training commitment if you wanna paddle M2O successfully solo. “no thanks you get to lazy after a while”
check out this wind site it's the best one for Hawaii http://weather.mhpcc.edu/wrf/maui2/wind.html

Top info cheers DW.
Fiji in 2015 then Hawaii in 2016 is on the planning list. Unlimited board sounds like the go. Maybe invest in a custom and have it shipped back.
How do you organise lifts/drop off's there's a shuttle service yeah??
Would be unreal to be out there paddling with the Hawaii legends young n old for a couple weeks. Dave, mark, Riggs, Kai, Connor, Downwinder
