Hey To Whom It May Concern
Has anyone out there been on a Mentawi SUP Adventure.
Possibly on the Arimbi boat.
Would love to get a comprehensive report.
I'm a 60yo experienced surfer, windsurfer and SUP rider.
yep best trip ever not on that boat but the M V. Adiction we are on the planing of our next trip now
Just got back from the Mentaiwis - on the Mangalui... great place to go if you stay away from the crowds... which is hard as there are reports of 50 charter boards operating in the Mentawisi / Telos/ Banyaks..
Check out - mangalui.com/
Mates of mine went last year and said it was no good, something about 8ft and offshore....they mentioned stand up somethingorothers, but I'd already tuned out by then. I remember they said it was too hot. Heaps of malaria. Dengue coming back in. They also said that there was a spot for me in 2015 if I wanted to go, but I hear the crowds will be insane and everywhere is rebooked. I'd heard 150 charter boats were coming on line and exclusive waves were being planned by provincial governments. And the rupe is getting much stronger, probably 1:1 or 2:3 in 2015.
Best you go this year if you have to, I reckon.
You will get waves in the telos for sure- probably better for a SUP than the south due to a friendlier vibe in the water and not as many hot shot short boarders.
Board is the 8"0 x 26 Naish Hokua.
Great shots. Was that boat trip exclusive SUP riders?
Hey Lenny,
No, there were 8 guys in total... 3 of us rode SUP's and I rode my short board aswell. The other 5 guys, rode short boards and one guy rode a body board.
Wouldnt be too popular in the lineup if 8 guys paddled out on SUP's..
Yeah surfers would spin out.
I guess a boat load of SUPs would have to find some of the more exclusive SUP type waves I have heard about.
That's the trip I'm looking for.
Exactly what are sup-type waves, anyway? Rifles at 5-6ft looks like a pretty good sup wave to me!
i have people say often how I'd like surfing such and such a wave, but they're always the slow or fat places. The good spots are a bit less sup friendly when they're crowded, but otherwise they're almost all fair game I reckon. Except maybe 8-10ft Bankvaults....

Anything fat and burgerish that doesn't barrel.

I knew there was a purpose for the paddle whilst on the wave
Couldn't agree more, mollydooka.
always thought poor old legion was talking about some other kind of sup in his erudite responses.....
