Evening all,
Serial offenders will know I posted this same issue a few months ago, but with less than 8 weeks to go til a pair of boardies embraces me in sunny Noosa, I'm still trying to sort out options for access to a SUP and keen for your tips.
I've looked into freight and the best it seems I can do is $300 EACH WAY from Torquay to Noosa....if you can believe it. Haven't given Surf Cargo a buzz yet, though.
Option B is to buy a board secondhand and return it on consignment, maybe losing a couple of hundred bucks along the way. Better than $600 methinks. I'd grab one off seabreeze, but then I'd have the get the thing back to Torkers.
In the event I go with Option B, who would you recommend up there as a straight-up and honest proprietor keen to assist a surf starved bloke for a bit of cash and a trusty 6-pack?
Much obliged

I went there last month and hired one from Laguna. Tully even put it in the van and dropped it off to me. Price was a lot less than your freight option. Stand up paddle sports also hire
Laguna Bay Long Boards - have great boards for Surfing the local area.
Bluewater Players also hire boards and decent boards for surfing!
Noosa Surf Works (Laguna Bay) will help you out for sure and give you sound advice where to sup/surf. Will PM you their number.
if you get down to Moffats there 's a Kalama in Kramers garage, just grab it ,he won't know its gone.Since he picked up the C4 sub vector nothing else gets wet.
And one of the great bits about Noosa is that when the tide is right you can almost walk along the beach till go get behing the breakers and then paddle over!
Really good for beginner old bloke.
BTW there is also old mate on the beach who rents em out as well but suspect Noosa and Laguna et al are a bit better.
Chicken schnitzel at Surf Club tooooo big to finish
xxxx still tastes like xxxx

I've freighted boards on Virgin..its about 160 each way....gotta pick up and drop it off at the airport both ends
I flew Jet star and the max they take is 1.9 meters as they only juuuust let my 6'6" short board on after some negotiations. My mate with a 6'8" didn't get his on. Don't bother with SUP's on Jet star- short boards are hard enough it seems: aint worth the headache.
Peace. And have fun in Noosa- what an amazing place :)
And one more thing!
Find out who old mate is - the bloke who takes his dog out on his SUP - would aslo be a good addition to the Best Blokes on SUP or whatever -
bloke, dog, SUP = chick magnet - dream on Sal says!
His name is Chris, dam how do you spell his sons name Keiah? sorry bad spelling.
Chris is the first I ever saw sup'ing years ago up Noosa. Like father like son both very good longboarders and sup'ers.
Mac - he can surf - dog better than most too but probs not too keen to get smell in water.
There was bloke at Bingin last year w little kid on board on the outside who did same stuff. Stood on head too.
Obviously not my age but outstanding!
Own up Chris - beers on me at NSLC

Thanks everyone.
Firstly, can I say that the dog's staying home. His raised knee turns are never appreciated in the water.
Secondly, thanks for the tips - we already bought the tix on Tiger which was a grave mistake, but for some reason I thought that because I'd been through page after page of additional charges I couldn't stop clicking the continue button.......at least they emailed the other day and let me know the flight had been rescheduled from 6am to 11am. Small mercies. Their small print says that they might be able to fit the board on but no guarantees, just bring it to the airport and they'll makeup their mind on the day. You'd have better luck at Denpasar with a fistful of rupes.
I'll give those shops a buzz and look into Virgin freight, seeing as we're going to Tullamarine anyway - thanks.
Been to Noosa a coup eof times in the past few years, but the back was r**ted then, so I was bodysurfing. On both trips we jagged out of season east cast lows and great 2-5ft waves. Can't wait to walk out the track in the dark this time with a sup in tow.
cheers

You can also try ringing Australian Air Express. Not sure what they charge. Or you could google them. They are located out on the Eastern End of Tulla, past Qantas and Jet Star. So if you were going to use them, you drive through the arrivals area, and onto Aust Air Express. Drop off, do the paper work, credit card etc. Then you can come back and drop you car in Long Term. Or you could get dropped off at Air Express, and then walk back to Tiger, or get dropped back at Tiger. From memory, Tiger is the extreme other end of the air port facilities though !!
Tiger is also coming to Avalon (Melb). The airport has several new bays under construction right now.
Noosa Longboards have a 10'0 Bongo Perkins I think. A 10'0 something else. Ring them. They have a selection of malibu's also, that you can swap between. $150 for the week. Their paddles didn't look flash though.... BYO paddle !!
Blue Water Players in Noosa Village (Noosa Junction) over the back of the hill, can be contacted on tel/fax 07 5473 5079, or Jonathan 0401 446 168. www.bluewaterplayers.com.au
I would hope Blue Water Players even have an option for you to borrow a big open water cruiser, for touring. Plenty of touring options around Noosa if the surf is too small.
If you ring Air Express, ask them if the board goes on a Qantas Plan, or on your Tiger Plane ? Otherwise you might have to wait around for the Qantas plane to arrive.
Actually, they may only delivery to Brisbane.... ???
Thanks Simondo - that's great. I'm pretty sure Aust Air Express were the ones who were $300 each way. They were nice enough about it.
The interesting thing is that I've been in touch with one particular shop in noosa who can send a board from there to Torquay for $105!
cheers.....and brrrrrrr. Surf was good here yesterday with air temp of a balmy 9.5 degrees til lunchtime. Maybe I'll do a review soon of my new patagonia steamer. Warm as toast.
