Hi Peeps,
If you don't know about us, we have been running fitness training sessions and race training sessions for months a few times a week. These sessions have been free to anyone who cares to paddle with us and Saturday has been BOP/Short course training since mid winter. As our fitness has improved, I've taken a rather unnatural interest in running and I've always enjoyed road cycling. We had a brain wave this morning to create a mini series of Fitness Challenges of 6 events plus a trial run starting 13th October.
The format is a Paddle/Cycle/Run with a 4km paddle, followed by a 19km cycle, and completed with a 5km run leg. All of this course is around the beautiful Swan River foreshore starting and finishing in Maylands at our regular paddle spot. The course is all flat terrain 95% of which is cycle paths and walkways.
The focus and intention of the race is completing it in the best time you can manage and then improving your time the next month. The course should only take around 2-2.5 hours for a person of average fitness, fit people should do it easily in under 2 hours.
Have a look at our Blog via our new Facebook Fitness Crew page for course and Event details. If you are interested in participating, "Like" and let us know on FB and we'll see you there at 6am on Saturday the 13th Oct for a trial run as a group so we all know the course.

Are you up for it?

Nice idea Darren,
I might be able to make next weekend, away on holidays next week, and the training would fit in with my mini anaconda plans for this year.
I could see this growing into a coastal challenge starting at port beach, swim 600 to 1000m, then sup downwind to city/floreat beach, beach run to trigg, then a bike ride to mullaloo or burns beach
Cheers
Hey guys,
It's amazing that after ages of training and considering myself reasonably fit, you add a new discipline and you get duly humbled.
I did my first 5km run the other day after training and it felt good, but I knew I'd be a little sore. Well, I was right, I was quite sore in muscles you just don't use while paddling. Great stuff! I'm looking forward to the challenge and getting fit enough to find it easy so when next years Anaconda Challenge comes around, I'll be fit enough to give it sh1t
I hope you can join us for our mini series, it should be a great challenge for most of us.

I'm going to try to get along next week if my usual brick session is cancelled.
I don't have a race board tho, would i be able to borrow/rent one?
Hi Peeps,
Unfortunately, due to personal circumstances beyond my control we are forced to delay the Fitness Challenge mini series start, until further notice.
I will update as soon as circumstances change. Sorry, I know there was a lot of interest in this event series. I hope to continue it some time in the near future.

There's a bunch of guys down Secret Harbour way who regularly run this type of multi-leg competition. Their fitness challenge is broken up into 5 events:
• 200m paddle – straight to the most crowded peak, through the crowd and preferably over the top of anyone who's caught inside
• One Wave Surf comp – catch the first wave that comes, no need to wait your turn, you're a SUP'er dude!
• 195m swim – your leggy has snapped – so its time to collect your board from the middle of that Childrens Surf School
• 500m dash – leg it to the car park before the Children's parents find out why they're all wounded and crying
• 65wpm type – race home to jump on an internet forum; complain about rude surfers, ask which carbon paddle gives the best performance for your 18 foot long barge and mention 'Laird' for extra points
These guys obviously love this medley event – since they are at it every single weekend.
