Hi

I'm wondering what the consensus is regarding SuP depreciation. For example what's a new $1500 sup worth in 5-7 years if in ok condition and water tight? Is 50% a reasonable expectation? Thanks

In the uk the resell value isn't very good at all , I was looking for a sup (ended up buying new as the deal was very good and couldn't find a small size in used).
However I spent a long time looking and was surprised that sups were struggling to sell at ?400-500 (new costs ?1800 - ?200) hard to tell the age but definitely seen a few that weren't older than 5-6 years.

There has been a surge in SUPers in 2021 with the covid driving people to outdoor sports. However, I could not find figures, but I think this number has sharply dropped once the novelty effect passed for beginners, and the experienced SUPers moving to foiling / wingfoiling.

This means that we see now that it is much harder to sell SUPs, and thus a sharp decrease in second hand prices. And it will be worse in 5 years.

50% is unreasonable for a 5 years board already today. Just check your favorite classified site.

If I could sell a board for %50 I would get a new one. Instead I keep until destroyed. I wonder if I could even sell my smaller boards for anything, maybe as a big guy surfboard. This isn't good for new market. Windsurfing went thru a bit of adjustment with eventually the used market clearing out of recent gear, new production adjusting and you don't see the same steep discounts of the past.

Yeh it's a shame really but the same thing has happened to used windsurfing kit in the uk , not many are buying it.
crazy when tiny used foil boards are selling for good money.
