I am considering storing one of my SUPs outside as I need the space in the garage. I have read that it is possible but not ideal . I was considering the following:

a. Against a south west side of the house that is well protected from sun (but not rain) under the waves. It would sit in an area between neighbours fence and the house wall.
b. it would sit on its rail on some raised pavers with foam protection between pavers and rail and rest against house wall.
c. The board has its original bag (surfboard warehouse - heavy bag). Not sure if best to keep in or out due to moisture . I would put a tarp over the whole thing .

The board is not new but still want to keep
it in reasonable shape . Any ideas from someone who does (or has done this) would be helpful

I have stored boards outside under some roofs.
- In a bag is OK is rain or moisture cannot reach it, otherwise avoid bags
- As long as it is not exposed to the sun it is OK
- Be careful of the pads: if exposed, cats can scratch on it, and insects or mice may try to eat it if the pad is in a tight place (against the wall). If possible let salt water dry on the pad without rinsing it, salt acts as a natural deterrent against mold and insects.

Hi there, I've had my ECS 10' noserider stored outside (always in its cover) for a couple of years now without any noticeable damage to the board or bag, my shorter boards are in a rack in the garage. It's protected somewhat by the eaves which are a couple of stories up but gets direct sun for a couple of hours a day, mainly because the neighbour's house is only about 4 metres from my eastern wall. I just bought a couple of brackets from Bunnings, fixed them to the wall to get the board off the ground and put an old bit of rope from one bracket to a hook as extra insurance - check out the pics. If you wanted to get fancy you could buy some sail track from Bunnings, screw it onto the wall above the board and then get some canvas, shadecloth etc that could hang over the board for more protection.

I keep 2 boards outside.. on the south side of the house under the eaves.

So they don't lean against the house (termite protection) I installed 2 upright 20mm galv posts using a flange to fix to the concrete and installed end caps at the top. See here: www.bunnings.com.au/products/bathroom-plumbing/plumbing/pipe-fittings/galvanised-pipe-fittings

At the top and bottom of the posts I rivetted a metal loop. Also covered the posts with pool noodles.

On the ground i layed that thick rubber mat (sort of thing used for playgrounds.. from Bunnings).

This allows for 2 boards, one each side. Use 2 ropes with hooks at top, tied to the bottom loops.. super quick access/return (hook into loops at top of posts).

To protect them I made a simple cover from heavy duty tarp... with a plank of decking timber to weigh it down - the length of each side (just wrapped around the timber and gun stapled on).
This has kept the boards in as new condition and super quick and easy to access. Plus I can hose them off after a session in the stand. Have been using this setup for 5 years and use a SUP daily.

Originally i just kept them in their board bags but they deteriorated significantly overtime, which suggests the ambient light and occasional rain is degrading them (the bags).
