Hi I am enquiring about which surf apps folks are using. I am using surf forecast but lately it's been way out for surf reports. I guess they are much of a muchness but when the report gives 5 stars out of 10 for a surf in the am for example but the tide is fully out at that time so you can't even swim there. It's just a bit frustrating relying on the apps when they seem to be so inaccurate.
I use Surfline for Gold Coast, only thing most of the cameras are on top of high rise buildings so surf looks worse than it really is
Apps typically don't factor local conditions or quirks in. They're computer generated models. They're good for forecasting swell direction, period, wind, tide etc but you need to apply the data to your local break together with your knowledge about how it works in particular conditions. if you can learn to forecast from the raw data of synoptic charts, moon phases and swell maps it will help you no end to use the apps effectively. trial and error!
Swellnet is head and shoulders IMO. These folks are meteorologist surfers and their reporting and predictions are spot on. I've been a long term subscriber and worth every cent including the journalism as well. Funny aside they had James Casey forecasting for a little while under the moniker KC without disclosing his identity, probs didn't want to upset the friendly non sup amigos.
Their weather knowledge is outstanding
