Interesting, and following
Most down winds are non events com race day as the wind never plays the game.
Sounds awesome. Hope it's for real. With a waiting period that long it could end up being the first proper downwind race in SE QLD ever.
Ha.......... you have some big brass balls Betty, with all the council hoops and insurance mumbo jumbo you are sticking your neck out.
I'm In 4sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Back to grassroots of ocean paddling, just racing as hard as you can for the hell of it and I'm guessing for bragging rights.
Cant wait to see this unfold.

I'm definitely in if I'm not working. I love the part written in RED, so Hawaiian (or shall I say lazy Aussie surfers slang, GOLD.) the only safety I like is a leg-rope.
Was messaged this today...next chapter/instructions I the non-event
STYLING Bump Betty
How long is the race in k's you didn't stimulate it's goto be at least 15-30km
$10 bucks is BULK fare but'll not chip in for prize money, but I'll chip in for more beer at the finish line and some Hash Cookies for food at the BBQ
You're onto it when it comes to organising a Downwind Paddling Race Bump Betty

You're Tripping Lacey
in 2003 Qicksilver held the very first Downwind Race in Australia Snapper Rocks to Currumbin Alley 8km with the help of Surfing Queensland "FUN DAY"
The Race had like 80 Prone Paddleboarders "Yes Please Mr Wizard"
iRONPHIL 18ft Unlimited 2003
No Leg-Ropes, PFD's or Flares in this race just your own paddling ability only Lifeguard Jet-Ski's watching IF You got in Trouble.
We NEED more of these kind of Races in Australia looks like Bump Betty is onto it, one word STOKED.
Why does he get red thumbed?
Good question..
Because there are idiots around who have no time for anyone that may be different to them or to their concept of what you should be doing.
Reasonable question to ask, or so I thought.
Bring on the red thumbs.
ET.
I hope all this is for real. Has anyone been looking at the forecast? If the forecast holds for the 28th, I'll definitely be heading up. It's saying 25-30 knots SSE at the moment. Doesn't get any better than that.
Don't worry my little goose bumps, I'm all over it like alligator shoes in a cheap Gold Coast restaurant.
Keep cool, have a great Xmas and stay posted.

I just said the first 12 towers race was a dw run for a change compared to just about every other race . The conditions came to the party .nothing more nothing less.
I dont give a toss about your prone paddling days

Yep the forecast's looking so good for the 28th fingers crossed looking forward to an epic Downwind run. I spoke with a Hux from the Sunny Coast today he said there's 15 Sunny Coast guys keen as, I keen if Flounder rocks up thats 17 thats a good number so far.
Better get those beers on ice already Bump Betty. It's going to be a BIG non event "GOLD"
"Yes Please Mr Wizard"
Hay Bump Betty can we get this Busker at the end of the Downwind NON EVENT run to entertain us while we are drinking Beer. "What Talent"
OK my little bump riders, The "Non event" is ON and the gods are loving Bump Betty .
Tuesday 29th Dec is the date and the non event will run regardless.
The forecast is 20-30knots of SSE wind with a good 6 foot of SSE sea running.
Meet at the Mooloolaba Spit BBQ area opposite the yacht club around 9am, look for the non event skull and cross bones.
There will be an envelope to be opened at 9:30am which will have the race briefing notes and instructions.
The DW run will be starting at 11am from the first Moff's shark buoy, which is located about 1km of Moffat Headland, please be mindful Moff's reef will be breaking up to 8ft and a wide berth is recommended. After about 12km you will Paddle around Point Cartwright, please be mindful Secrets (a reef at the very tip off Point Cartwright could be 8ft plus and needs to be paddled with extreme caution , just paddle wide and don't be a hero. There are no rules about surfing down Point Cartwright "I say go for it", but remember Froggy's and Platform's reefs will bite hard if you pull in and that big rock wall at the end of Carties will turn you and your board into swiss cheese if you get to greedy, so maybe paddle wide if you haven't been a local for 20 years. Finishing at the beach in front of the BBQ area at the spit.
Remember you are responsible for your own safety.
This could be history so don't miss this one.

I'm sure Bump Betty has to err on the side of caution with regard to complete novices doing this race and has therefore talked up these surf sizes ever so slightly. With the swell fairly south and at this stage just short period wind swell, I'd say both Moffats and Mooloolaba (protected from southerly swell) will be 2-3 foot (max)
Both the start and finish points are perfect for getting SUPs in and out of the surf in these conditions... If you've done a few downwind paddles and are thinking about doing this race I'd say do it, conditions look perfect!
