Just curious, could you say why you think it's fragile. I just bought a Javelin so i'd be interested to hear
It must be frustrating as a paddler to work your arse off in training day in and day out, and then suffer the pain of pushing yourself in a race, only to find that if you win everyone clamours to suggest it is at least partly because of the equipment you use, and if you lose, that it must be because you aren't as good as your peers.
Well put Area 10. I'd say it's about 98% to do with the paddler. But if you could have a 2% advantage over someone else would you?

Well put, you are better off spending your hard earned $$$ on coaching and training.. rather than upgrading.. 98% is a huge chunk of the equation to improve.. buying a new board isn't going to improve that 98%
once you get yourself fast, then look for marginal gains
Once you get urself fast you don't buy yourself a new board they give you one.
I'm amazed these guys can paddle 24 wide boards so quickly I'm quicker on a wider board because I feel more comfortable on them..
Thiugh watching the QLD state tech race boothy on the new 24 all star fell off I saw 3 times, I didn't see any other leaders fall. and he came a very close 2nd. If he hadn't fallen off 3 times by being on a marginal wider more stable board would of he ran away with the race I wonder?? Or is having at 1 or 2 inches wider than the others going to slow him down that much he wouldn't of been at the top pack??

Depends on the type of 24 " board. But really sups have come along way. 2 years ago 24 " was for madmen.
Now even our moderate paddlers at training wouldnt be on a board wider then 26".
I reckon there more to a board then whats being mentioned above.

We are still waiting for our Maliko's to arrive (first week Oct) but just looking a the pics and hearing the comments from Ethan and others on forums the stability has improved over previous years downwind boards for a number of reasons. Maliko has more parallel outline, slightly sunken deck, lower rocker, more concave, harder rails all of which combine to making a more stable board.
I've been riding the 26" 2014 Jav and the 28" 2015 Jav for the past two years and from the looks of things I might be able to squeeze onto the 24" if I can stay off the pies for the next 3 weeks....I tried the 23" 2014 Jav numerous times and although it was hands down the fastest board I've downwinded it used to tire me out to such an extent that all gains made in first half of a run where lost in the second half - it was a hoot though as it used to glide through and over any bumps in front of you.....bring on October!

What was the stability of last years 26" wide Jav compared to this years?, curious as ive been told the 2016 is a lot more stable, I've been on the 12'6 x 26 2016 Jav and 26" wide Maliko and I felt quite stable on both even being 100kg at the time.

I had quite a few issues with my 2015 14'x28" LE Jav as an ocean board, I bought it for DWers at just under 4 grand, ouch! It kept cracking on the back rails & tail.
In the end traded it back at the shop for a sic bullet V2, no issues there.
I still have my 2014 14'x26" LE Jav, never had a repair from the same rider me , love that board. Maybe I was unlucky, bad batch?

I have only ridden the 26" 2015 Jav in flat water and I'd say it felt more stable than the 2014 Jav - I've downwinded the 2015 28" Jav and its way too stable for me. If the 2016's are even more stable then I reckon I can go down a size which would be awesome.....
I think the design is going in the right direction as in narrower more stable boards are faster (and more user friendly) than say the original Jav shape (which was 26"). The original Jav shape is still one of the most slippery hulls ever made, but it is very tippy and a less slippery design on a 24" wide board which gives it same or better stability will be faster. Square rails and concaves add wetted area which increases drag, but if it helps increase stability to a point where you can shave off 2" of width then that will offset any increased drag. Amazing how it is evolving all the time and how stability has taken primary attention of the designers. I guess you can say the original Ace took this to the extreme and was way ahead of the game.
I like to think of it as a car, it's no good putting big power in the car if you don't have the suspension to match, handling is more important than outright power when going around a track and being able to put the power down on a SUP is crucial.
The 2016 Jav Carbon have a little more volume than 2015, especially out on the rail which = more stability. Slightly lower entry and lower exit (less rocker), for even more speed and acceleration. The 2016 Jav has a Wood sandwich deck, which adds a lot more durability. This said, they are still designed to be s light as possible for top end performance. If you hit your board, you run the risks of damaging it. The Jav is designed to compete at the elite end of the market, and a board that will give you that edge on your competitors.

So there should be some disclaimer given when considering a purchase given potential damage due to being made as light as possible for performance. Designed for elite riders, meaning intermediate rider level beware!

Good idea for all lightweight and expensive race boards .. But intermediate paddlers should be ok .. Just not a wise board choice for learners..

The 2016 Javelins don't come in the GX construction, I think, but in what they are calling "carbon" instead (with the Maliko Javs in LE). At least, that was my reading of the 2016 catalogue.
