Touched on this before, wasn't going to post until I had more info, but material is building up.
Lacey and SA, weigh in.
Got some from Alkali, Zak's surfboards, then went to True Ames in the USA.
Trying to find interesting stuff.
Zak's input.
FCS 10

Vouch Glide

FCS Fat Boy
I like the name

True Ames first input - the Yater Rudder
From here on, it's longboard single fins.

True Ames Squirell Cutaway

True Ames Greendough Stage 6

Love this fin.
Put one in my 14' 666, I'm sure it's twice as fast as it used to be.
Dewy Weber Hatchet
Who could go past it?

Haven't used it yet, But I don't think turning is high on the priority list.
More to come.

9.75 inch Bennett, $75, takes me everywhere, I want to go and everywhere I can go

just enough base area to hold me up on the tip for the nanosecond my nose rides usually last. Not so big it creates too much drag. Long enough to reach the water ( no joke, my 10.2s have extreme tail kick). Narrow end is good for a bit of hot dogging

Cut tail DC was no front tie down on. Did about 60km including 100kmh freeway stuff before the board snapped and took off.
Long term repair project.

Science of fins I have no real idea, but am enjoying playing.

Alkali Hull Flex

But I keep coming back to the Dewey Weber Hatchet.

Will give it a try tomorrow if I can get out.

More fins - along with the t shirts in delivery last Friday, just a couple for now.
George Greenough Stage 4 with California coast naval map.

I don't think it's meant to be ever used - work of art.
If I feel like going traditional, a D fin.

With the overhang at the back, they've fitted an 11" base fin in a 10" BOX.

Turn?

Is there anything more annoying than fins that don't fit in the box..

Too big is a pain in the arse. Sanding here I come.

Fins that are too small. Box on the blue gun is so wide FCS II fall out.
You can sand a too wide fin to fit nicely, packing with duct tape on a too narrow fin less satisfying.

Fins cheaper than boards.
And easier to hide.

I'm the other way, 10 second job to pack them to fit and heaps easier if you are changing them between boards. What fits one won't fit another so just easier to pack them.

Don't start me on different sized fin screw holes they are my real pet hate.

I've got that Alkali 11" flex fin on my McT Involvement and its absolutely sensational. Use the 8 3/4" on my Evo style and that's equally as epic.

OK, I've been fighting it.
Well, not very hard actually.
There may have been a couple of deliveries I haven't posted.
Well, a lot. Some nice 2 + 1 sets a while ago.
I've recently picked up a couple of boards that can be set up as quads, so ordered some for those.
But my main project of late has been flocking around with / restoring / repainting the blue 12' 666 at the top of the page, so ordered some fins for that as it is nearing completion. Fin choice heavily influenced by colour.

Courier delivery from the US at home, hustled it out to the Kombi before The Wife One could ask too many questions.
Opened it at my factory.

Quads and 2 + 1 s later.
Apart from this Smith Parish 2 + 1

Middle fin has to be all the way forward for colour reasons!

Middle might need to move further back.
Hate to have fin colour clashing with board colour, swap the 7" Smith Parish for a 7" George.

Or go the full contrast set.

That's probably a pretty sensible set up, and I really like the look.
But who wants to be sensible ?...

Oh now to have time to sit on a beach and try / change / compare......
Love those white Georges....
More to come.

VB cans cut in to thin strips make perfect packers, better than duct tape maybe

Yeah. Doing the same thing to an Ice cream container lid is good. Straws work great.

To be honest most times I find a stick, a straw anything that looks like it will work on the ground in the carpark and use that.

So I'd really like to hear some ride reports with opinions of each fin and the characteristics of each?
Have any been ridden yet?

No, not yet - still need to finish the board.
And I'm pretty sure I won't be able to tell the difference.
I'll put up the sales pitch on each later.

That blue & white banded board needs a 7.5cm cutaway fin Nozz - she'll turn on a dime with one of those beasties in just forward of centre in the box plus a pair of 4.5's for biters

good one mate - try that next time you go out in the surf , see how it feels even if it's just a fade or small cutback at first

But Nozza rides 666's so is that a different feel compared to longboarding.

His collection would have to be one of the best getting around.
