Hi All,
I'm moving to the tiny swell of Bargara (Bundaberg) and looking for a big board to make the most of it. Thinking 12 foot-ish to catch tbe ripples and knee paddle (I'm 90kg). What do you recommend? McTavish Grace or Sugar, Deadkooks 11 11, Pieter Albatros, Ryan Birch Glider, Thomas Postie...others?
Not so much a review here but a recommendation on a couple I've owned.
I owned the Grace 10.6 its a really sexy looking board that glides well, standard triple stinger and D fin.
I currently own a 11 foot Sugar which glides and performs much better than the Grace. One of the members here Vanders owned the Peiter's
Albatros 11.11 and he surfed it well. I don't know about the others you have mentioned but I would be going for a 12 foot board for extra glide for your new location.
Getting hard to find but don't discount a Surftech 11' Munoz model, the older models are apparently better than the newer models. Was nothing wrong with the Pieter Albatross though.
I do a few but it's sooo much effort to source the blank, shape and then glass that I don't promote them too hard. This is a 12' I did for Luke a few months back. ????
We have a 10'3 mini glide by Josh Constable ( creative army ) its amazing , comes longer also. A board that is built for fun, not just to be long :). I recommend giving him a message on FB

Thanks Macaha, yeah I guess there is a reason d fins aren't used much anymore but the Grace is the coolest looking thing

The new Munoz's read pretty well, I imagine would catch a hint if a wave with their huge dimensions and a bit cheaper than most 11-12 footers. I haven't ever seen any for sale 2nd hand. The only commentary I've seen online, other than the sales pitch, is that the new ones may be prone to snapping.

Nice

Yeah they'll catch a bow wave from a bream, earlier models are much more robust apparently.

The Grace is the coolest looking thing, I have a 10'6". For me it goes really well. Heavy, and a little narrower than my Diverse 10 foot all rounder, but my go to for places like Arra.

Style master mate
I've got a 12' Munoz in the old school surftech. I will never part with that board.
I would also swap pretty much the entire rest of my quiver for an 11' Munoz in the old surftech.
I have heard that the Firewire Viking (11') is very similar to the 11' Munoz. Could be worth looking into?
Vanders old glider sotted at Kirra
Yeah that's it.

Yes my 11' Munoz will be the last board I'll sell.
Yeah that was Rick with the board, got chatting with him in the surf he has purchased a couple of my boards before, nice guy.
Hey there....haven't been on here for a while but can highly recommend the Christensen Glider. My 11footer is such a blast to ride.
Looked but couldn't find it

In Curl Curl.... looks nice in that long shot where you can see the bin...
Edit...
I hope you had some luck with your board hunt, Bargarasurf.
These two clips have been shown before in a couple of other threads. You have most probably seen them. But geez they make gliders look like a hell of a lot of fun. So I'll share them again.
Yes I was hoping the 10' 2" would do the job
Still need another 1'-2' on top of that.......
Another of Bob's gliders.... From Gary McEvoy's wonderful youtube channel.... Monday 8 June 2020 Coffs Coast Ray Gleave on his 12 foot McTavish Glider, and Reed Smith on his 9'5" McTavish Single Fin Noserider model. Light offshore wind, small surf in the 1-2 foot range.
(Sorry if it's a repeat. But worth it for a Ray Gleave cutty...)
