That's the board I was telling vanders about. I surfed one years ago and it well and truly lived up to the blurb I read about it post surf on grants website.this was when he was still northern beaches, and the quality of it was awesome.

Great score mate

Oh a few more.shots would not go astray

Thanks guys..had the first surf on him today..small but clean...and..

Like Grants spiel, it does paddle like a longer board and catches waves easily..sits high in the water ( I only weigh 65 kegs) and is a bit like McCoy Nuggetts I've had and loved, but it's looser to turn..the shape is exactly like the write up...so it can only improve when I get used to it..could do with better fins as well.

PS..Nice Munroe coming to the For Sale shop

A friend from high school rang me this morning. He lives in Manly now and is a keen surfer. He said "everytime I take out KK's (his wifes) big pink bennett longboard I have a blast. Everytime I take out my JS Revolution I can't catch a thing. Do you know of any high volume shortboard shapes that I can use when the surf is bigger." He just wants to be able to cruise down the line in bigger surf as he is not big on just doing snap turns.

He was also looking at the Tak Scorpion or McTavish Sumo but was worried about the wide nose and getting those boards in big surf.

I told him about Grant Miller and Mc Coy boards, any other suggestions from anyone.

Both McCoy & Miller boards will handle bigger surf, just look at any old vid of Cheyne Horan..he nails 8' with ease..and GM have the VeeSkate that will do it well....so not a prob..

In reply to Grants boards paddling like mal's.
My first board I got of grant was an 8' Powerglide about 5 or 6 years ago and at the time I was pushing 130kg's and had been riding a 10' mal for a couple of years as the weight went on the boards got bigger!!!!!!
I was a bit dubious about Grants promise that it would float me but from the very first wave it was a gem paddled like it was a 9'6" but I could throw it around like a shorty.
When I was looking at going shorter than the ten footer every shaper I spoke to as soon as i said I was 130 keg's told me to stick to a mal.
Grant was the exception.

Since then I have dropped 20kegs and have been riding a 7'8" waterskate and recently had custom 7' single fin wing pin (70's style) and both boards definitely paddle like they are bigger.

Let's face it surfing is about having fun and Grants boards get me into waves earlier which equals plenty of Stoke.

I would highly recommend Grant's boards to anyone. First class personal service.

Cheers
Paul

Thanks for the feedback Paul & great to have you in the room of stoke, welcome mate.

I'm really looking to taking possession of my SubX, I'm sitting around the 104kg mark now so this'll be some more motivation to drop a few more kegs.

Been looking at one of these myself, something I can throw in the back of the Ute when I'm traveling for work or a quick pre-work dip..

Anyways, Grant sounds like a bit of a character, big opinions loudly voiced, particularly fond of his mutual dislike for our current PM... But I particularly thought this was interesting:

"However I'm not going to provide really fine grain detail here. I'm not going to make it any easier for the thieves from Asia who copy our boards to do their dirty work. I'm very serious. This is part of what's going on in our industry at present. The dark side of the surfboard industry. And not all the theft of intellectual property originates in Asia either. Australia's East Coast also has it's fair share of participants. These parasites copy, pure and simple. Part of their 'business model' also includes the exploitation of websites like Realsurf and Seabreeze, where they flagrantly promote their offerings under the guise of helping people, thereby avoiding paid advertising. A story for another day."

So, any of you mass wanna come clean

I have 6 boards atm, an Easten state local, a local shaper, 2 offshore popouts from an Oz Co., another old local shaper producing offshore, 2 thirds of a carton & a number of missing bourbons.....I tend to buy shapes that are gonna fill whatever gap I see in my quiver. I'll go for quality in high performace & cheaper for backup or not so often used lighter beachie boards ie summer fish hybrids.

Hahaha, sure, I believe you... I think Lacey is actually CW Steve "that Lacey surfs real good" hmmm...

As for the Quad, seems it does but i think its more a cruiser design...

"The SUBX is also available in Quad format. It seems that those people wanting Quads are looking for an experience which is closer to that already provided by their conventional boards but with the addition of greatly improved paddle power. The Quad needs to be surfed in a more active fashion, in contrast with the pure flow of the Single. We are also optioning the SUBX Single to come with side plugs so that you can run small side fins if desired. "

and

"We have recently released an exciting and thoroughly tested 2 + 1 fin option for the SUBX. When it came out last winter, the SUBX was specifically designed as a single fin for small waves. We also offered a Quad option for those who wanted more of a regular shortboard kind of feel. However the majority of surfers have been ordering the single fin version."

I love a bloke who calls a spade a spade ! I have a pretty good idea who he means on RS and its not hard to work out here in the 666 room as previously mentioned. I have no affiliations with anyone but do tend to be loyal on most products that I like across the spectrum - try and use the same service station, same soft drink, beer, wax, same butcher, same fruit n veg shop etc just because I know that they work well, treat me well and are fairly priced. Boardwise I feel like I am a bit of a whore these days - I have 3 Ted Shapes (he makes amazing boards ), 2 Firewire, 1 Pete Glasson, 1 Murray Burton and 2 large bits of foam that are 1/2 done. My business model is pretty simple - if I can make it I will, if its bargain and I think I can get away with it I will and if its for waves of consequence I will probably let someone else make it. I do not really feel that the Greenroom has been infiltrated that much by anyone - just a few strong supporters.

Well.. now had the SUBX out a cupla time as 2+1 in surf ranging from 2'-4' in 2+1 config, ah.. this ones a keeper. Now going to go to quad setup with Simon large glass fins to see how she goes, should be good/interesting. Oh yeah & the paddle just feels even better.

Everyone seems super stoked on this board. I think everyone should buy one and then we can have a SUBX Event like the McT Scooter Classico Event in Byron.

This would be the Miller SUBX Classique event.

I'm keen to hear your opinion on the quad vs 2+1, I've ordered mine as a 2+1 but am curious if the quad would be better??

What were your thoughts on the single vs 2+1?
