Thanks to the Tassie boys I am all set for my winter adventure down your way. Very scared of the water temps though. Heading down late next week for a while. Looking forward to catching up with you fellas for some waves and beers. New 5/4 with hood has been ordered like I say - very scared of the water temps ! We finalised a house rental last night so it's all go. Depending on ferry timings Tux I might seek a session or two down your way on route. Will advise closer to the time if I can pull it off.

WHAT your moving to Tassie
Thanks Steve - really looking forward to it.
Mac - the lady has been posted down there for 5 months - too good an opportunity to pass up. Love cold uncrowded waves fear not I will still be spending time in Indo through this period - just not as much as I normally do.
Should be a fun adventure - lots of stuff to do down there. So it will be a change of pace for a while but super excited at the opportunity- would prefer summer to winter but you do not always get a say in everything
We have to spend some Cashola on a new wardrobe. Don't think my Indo tshirts and boardies with flip flops will keep me warm
Just brought a new bike rack for the car today - so bikes are coming with us. Need some new winter gear though to keep warm
Plenty of waves between your new rental & Apollo too...I spent a couple of winters round there, you shouldn't need the 5/4...but then again if your used to Indo lol I moved there from Margs
Good on you Ted. What an interesting life you lead.
Photographer Sean Davey has been sharing some good Tassie stuff on FB...
Be good to have you down dude and I'm predicting a very good winter in the points but there's loads more to do as well, awesome seafood , masses of great beer/wine/cider and that's one awesomely beautiful part of the world your visiting.
I also totally disagree with Mick, you WILL most deffinately need every mm of that wettie, great gloves and booties also.
Where'd you end up renting in the end? I'll be in Smithton in about 2 weeks of you don't make it south before then.

I was reffering to SW Vic, not Tassie. I would probably need one of those heated wetties to get in the water down there

Hahaha, fair enough...
Did someone say beers?
So you're still there TK!
I was born in Hobart, swam in the Derwent all year up to age 7, no one told me it was cold.
Not very bright.
Tassie Sup people tell me water doesn't get much colder than Vicco 10 degrees.
Maybe they lie
Waves are pumping bro get on down if you need new winter duds the seconds shop have 50-60% jackets and snow **** at the moment

Haha water is definitely cold mate. From what I hear with the first snow melt it goes below 10°
Going to be interesting dealing with that this year
Living the dream Ted..
You lucky bastard...
Get stuck into the pies before winter and add a bit of "insulation"

5/4 with hood? I am scared
take no notice of teacake Ted, he comes from the east coast, water is a good 5C warmer up there, when I was his age a footy jumper and shorts was all you needed down south in winter, there was always a good fire on the beach to warm between sessions.
Look Riverider there is no way of sugar coating it - its going to be cold no matter what end of Tassie I am at - recall I normally reside in the tropics. This is scary
Its colder than where I grew up in NZ
Colder than when I was in South America and froze my nuts off - I reckon it was colder the year I was there than the UK.
But not as cold as when I used to live in England. I moved to Oz immediately after that - and for good reason Looks its going to be bloody cold and I need to be well prepared.
Hey Ted,
Toughen up ya big wussy
McHenry hits the nail on the head you might need to visit this guy before you commit www.wimhofmethod.com
You're a lucky man Teddy bear,
Whilst I have necer surfed in Taz, I have done heaps of other stuff and just love the place. Overland track is a must for anybody that loves being outdoors.
Rafted the Franklin about five years ago, kayak in Bathurst harbour. Camp at Freyzinet and go to the pie shop in Coles Bay and get a SCALLOP PIE, you have never tasted anything so good.
Go to Cloudy Bay in Bruny and see where the southern ocean hits the island. Then drive along the beach and camp in the little camp ground in the corner.
Make sure you go to the Bruny Island oyster barn. Oysters fresh out of the water and a choice of beers. There is also an awesome cheese place.
Bay of Fires, awesome hiking and camping right behind the beach.
I could go on and on the place is just magic.
Oh I forgot about Cockle Creek, make sure you have a swim down there, when you get out you have no penis at all.
Have fun.
ET.
Personally, I love winter in Tassie! The cold water keeps the lineups clear of softies and its generally when we get the best swells... ... down south that is, up there it probably means cold and onshore
Plus, Ted, you get to order a couple of new boards, with a few extra litres to compensate for the wettie -- and the effects of all that great Tassie food and booze.
New boards ummmm already have one on order. But it was for a different place. Due to arrive next week. May need another one. Looked at a 7'4 semi gun yesterday. Heaps of volume which will be nice for those bigger days when it's freezing. But have held off for now. I am going to just take the one board down and ease into it. If I am feeling the love will add to the collection. Right now I have boards in 2 places and soon three. So reluctant to have too many things around the place. I am packing the golf clubs and mountain bike so should be covered for entertainment options. TassieDev assures me there is a fun golf course in the small town we are living in
