Hi all, first time post. Apologies for a question first up.

I'm looking at getting a Catch Surf Odysea Skipper Quad either in 5'6" or 6' for surfing Perth Metro this summer. Aim is just for fun.

The 5'6" is 42L and 6' is 48L.
I'm 5'11" and 80kg at an intermediate to advanced level of surfing. 48 yrs old.

i normally ride a 5'11" to 6'2" short board at around 29 to 31L.

I have a Catch Surf Beater but struggle in the mush as there isn't a lot of volume when there is no push. Ok in the closeouts and when there is a little swell. No dramas standing up on this, but just too small for fun. I once had a 6ft Star Softboard but whilst easy to catch waves it sucked at turning and felt big.

Anyone in Perth at a similar weight to me have the 5'6" or 6' Skipper? What you you recommend. My heart likes the 5'6" as it maybe better to throw around and hook into the closeouts, but the 6' will allow me to catch the small gutless waves on those crappier days.

Thanks in advance.

Ok, to close this thread. I ended up getting the 5'6" quad,

Surfed it this morning at Scarbs in 1-2ft typical closeout conditions with backwash.

It floated me fine, however felt like it didn't have a lot of glide, so some more length would have been better. Didn't feel a hell of a lot easier to paddle than my 54 inch Beater despite the volume.

Hard to judge in the closeout conditions, but it felt quite fast and for the few waves that I got it seemed to go ok. Quite maneuverable. Typical soft board sponginess when hitting the lip.

May take some time to get used to, and looks like it needs a bit of push to get it going, On reflection I think the 6' version would have been better, Oh well, hindsight.

Hope that helps someone else in a similar predicament.

Hey westoz

i didnt have either so couldn't comment, but I did buy a 6'0 O&E ezi rider for the wife pre summer and rode it a few times. Definitely has huge volume, paddles well and "glides" in waves but I couldn't stand the flex after a couple of jumps back onto more normal boards, and won't go back to it.

i keep mucking around on different flat wide, long and short boards in PU for summery mush - maybe look at something like a lost puddle jumper, yahoo has a couple of good summery ones also I've read on here - but I guess most brands do these days

softboard only for wife, kids, total last resort if high risk of a snapping PU on the beachie for me these days

cheers - and keep on posting how you go, there's lots of interested readers if not always frequent posters

I have the 6'
im 6'2. 80kg and intermediate.
love it. just got back form esperence national parks riding beacheys on it.
Ive surfed it at loads of different beacheys and reef breaks.
Love the confidence, dont care if it hits reef, or sand or me!
gets into waves early, pump it and stay high on wave (cos its a quad) and it goes pretty quick. duck dives easy.
not sure on their volume call, i recon its about comparible with my 40l glass board.
Prob my most used board now.
Just got to keep tightening fins, the thru bolts.
get as light a colour as possible on bottom. i have thick stripes and the black section at nose has started to delaminate a little.
GOt to keep them out of sun,
Its the one thing that worries me as i regularly go camping and generally would leave boards on roof racks for up to 2 weeks. Cannot with a soft board or it would be a baloon... so i generally just chuck it in back of car and it sits above kids heads, then if parked i throw it under car in shade.

i was in same predicament between getting the 5'8 and the 6. glad i got the 6 for bit more float and glide. Next one i will possibly go the 6' log in thruster. JOB raves about it and has even more float and nose area for glide and getting into closeouts early haha.
