Ok i understand the Indo questions seem to have all been asked but TBH their is such a wealth of knowledge of Indo i thought i should ask specific for my trip..
Looking at booking for a week in July/Aug with family. Im really wanting to surf nice clean waves (preferably with out the agro {That may not be possible}) but family all love to snorkel and spend time at the beach, not really hanging around the pool drinking/sunbathing. Active days maybe but really don't like crowds and busy situations so Kuta is not of interest..
I was thinking Nusa Lembogian or maybe Gilli islands. Reading back though people say to stay on the West side of Bali for that time of year?
Also looking at flying Virgin, (i got hooked with cheap jetstar prices but upon looking don't really want to fly at 3 in the morning)..
The kids also like to surf so somewhere possibly were they can have some fun would be good. Somewhere like this but at a 5th of the price..
maybe look into lombok or sambawa! if your not into resort theme these maybe good for you! family exploring, snorkleing etc,etc
lembongan - great snorkelling, kiddie friendly surf at times (playgrounds), a bit to do, ride scooters/bikes, snorkell with manta rays, cliff jumps
getting busy thou
gili - great snorkel, rarely good surf, smaller islands more party party
lombok - south coast in constant trades, but nice beaches, can scooter around, kiddie surf (don don grupuk etc) , peaceful
we went in july this year, no complaints for what it is, kids rode scooters , roads quiet, bali of old ( for now!)
lakey - worth some thought , havent been for 12 years, but great surf, lagoon less else to do thou
i like active family holidays and lembongan has been good, but dont go school holidays in july - total circus
java cove, gnaraloo
What about Banda Aceh
Or forget about Indo
Maybe try NZ, Costa Rica, Fiji even Hawaii.
All family friendly and plenty to do besides surfing
Thanks guys, will look up those spots.
I wanted Indo just a cheap holiday. Also its 4 hours flying so i can really do a week easy. Just did Hawaii and will book 4 weeks for 2016 same spot, same time. The exchange, simple cost, time to travel, and the jet lag you need to do it for a long period. Three weeks was great but 4 would have been better. Also running my own bushiness simply getting away is hard for such a big period.
Also i wanted the kids to see a Poor culture. They really had their eyes opened with some of the homelessness in Hawaii and i think it would broaden their horizons some. Also they are possibly the only two kids in WA to not have visited Indo
I tend to over analyse these trips, but as i take such small time off, i like to get it spot on
By active i mean snorkelling, maybe some hiking or bush walking, water falls that type of thing, Surfing.. I do like the look of Lombok, especially the idea of your description Bali of old..
Thanks again..
JB,
Indonesia is probably at the forefront of shark culling.
You should make a stand and boycott Indo and holiday elsewhere.
Cheers
Maybe check out Central Java
Pangandaran
Its one of Indonesias premier holiday spots for the people of Java
And guess what
It has waves
Its not full on freight train barrels or Ments perfection but fun beachies and the odd reefy
For the most part you will be on your own
Google it
i went to the Gilli islands july last year with the fm had a great trip scored nice waves 4ft most days. would recommend mate
The wife n I went to Gillis April May this year. Surfed all three islands breaks @ 3-4 ft alone except trawongan. Stayed on Meno the quiet one, an excellent hol
Lakeys only works in September/October. That is if your kiting. Even then theres precious little for non-kiters to do, the wife left and went back to Sanur after 5 days..bliss.
The best wind in Bali is in Sanur and its best between June and July..how goods that. Theres heaps of surf breaks around the South of the Island, from Caangu to Sanur, Nusa etc so its not so crowded.
Theres heaps for the family to do coz your still in Bali. And dont get confused, Lombok is like bali 20 years ago only its still full of aggressive muslims from 20 years ago too, not like Bali at all!!
Contact Jankie at Bali-kitesurfing and he can set you up with cheap accomadation and give you all the info youll need.
Have fun, Ill see you there
