I am needing a bit of advise on a good inexpensive diving style watch. Not Gshock please.

The 'cheaper' Garmin sport/smart watches are waterproof up to 5 atmospheres, not quite as chunky as a g-shock either.
Garmin Vivoactive 3 - $249 and you can customise the face for big numbers for easy reading in the water (for those of us now needing glasses 
).
