This was my second time out wind foiling. Super gusty 5-15 knots on Lake Lopez in California; starting to get the hang of it but still had plenty of great stacks. I felt like my flight control, particularly in gusts was a lot better by the end of this session. I'm on a Slingshot H2 foil with a 35.5" mast, 2010 Starboard iSonic 121 with a 5.7 NP Wizard. Love the perspective the rylo 360 degree camera gives you!
Interested to know what people think the lightest wind I could get this board up and foiling and how much a fanatic light wind would lower the foiling threshold.
Your boom looks too low and that will create downward pressure on your board which then creates the dolphin leaps up and down. Try raising up the boom 3".
Using a slalom board the back straps are too far out on the rail for the SS foil. We all use the SS with 68, 76 or 84 wings and the foil prefers your weight (especially back foot) more over the foil. When you lifted up with your back foot out the strap and in the middle is the perfect place.
A foil dedicated board like the SS wizard is the perfect match for the foil. The H2 wing is very similar to the 2019 time code 68. If you have the chance to try the infinity 76 or 84 it changes everything.
Thanks CoreAS...when I first went had I had my boom way to low and moved it up but looks like I should go higher still. I didn't bother putting my back foot in the rear strap in fear of nasty landings but noticed the difference when I moved it to the middle.
I'll take a look at the other wings:)
From my understanding with the slingshot foil combined with a fanatic light wind would probably perform worse in light with than the isonic you are you on. As mentioned above the slingshot foil wants a narrow tailed board. And has great low wind performance with smaller sails.
The fanatic light wind is a great foiling board when combined with high aspect wings like the starboard 800. And the low wind performance of this set up is great. A chap I sail with is 95kg and gets up in sub 10knots with a 9.0m with this set up.

Sick vid. How do you get that clew shot?

That footage is great, nice job. For the record I started last year on pretty much the exact same board and foil combo. At 180lbs, it seemed that 12mph average wind speed was about where the fun consistently began. Going to a 84cm Infinity didn't add as much as expected to the bottom end, but makes it way easier to glide through lulls. I've since gone down to a Wizard 125L, I've only had it out a couple times, it feels a bit slower to takeoff as it plows through the water more, but once in the air it feels amazing.
Wow. Cool vid. Good shots. I agree with those above, higher boom. Keep you foot in the middle. Also, for more stable flight (pitch). Lock out the rear leg/heel. It helps to have fewer variables keeping pitch. Use your hips/front leg for smaller adjustments. You are well on your way!

Does it work with a gopro?
As i understand its an effect of the 360cameras. The stick disappears in the dead angle imho.
So no, not by the gopro

When I used to live in California, I went to Lopez Lake once. Unfortunately there wasn't much wind when I was their. But I know it blows their. Did a lot of windsurfing at Ventura beaches, Leo Carrillo, Long Beach and Santa Barbara. Fun times!! Looks like you're having fun, enjoy!

Ventura county is the bomb. Never sailed santa barbara but had many a session at C-street, leo carrillo and cabrillo state beach.

Did you meet asian Mike?
Don't think I've met Asian Mike yet...I'll look out for him.

I tried out Lake Isabella last weekend. Looks like a great place. It was a little light and gusty the day I was there but I got to meet some of the local dedicated windsurfing crew. Had some nice long runs. A huge bonus is you can park your van right on the waters edge...

Does it work with a gopro?
Won't work with a GoPro because it is the angle and software I think that get rid of the stick. You could still attach a GoPro and angle it back, just the stick will be in the shot. You can see the camera on the end of the red selfie stick. The camera has two lenses, one is facing straight up and one straight down but because each one is 180 degree (together 360) it doesn't matter which way the camera is facing except that the lenses need to be 90 degrees to the stick to not capture it.
Very cool. Have you tried on the top of the mast?

I'm in Oregon now. These are my 2 local spots. Klamath Lake and Odell Lake.
Very cool. Have you tried on the top of the mast?
not yet but keen to try it!
Odell Lake is a well-known site for central Oregon sailors. Good fishing, too.
Can you please give a detailed description of the launch, wind expectations, etc., of Klamath Lake? Thanks.

You have to know Klamath Lake to know the best places to launch. The best spot is past the yacht club on Front St where Harbor Ilse st intersects Front St. There are 2 empty lots of grass. Perfect for rigging. If you pass the condos you went to far, plus the street dead ends, so ya can't miss it. There is a great launch next to the condos where I posted this pic in this post where the empty lots are.
Just had a few good sessions this week with a kiter passing through from Seattle Washington. He didn't know where to launch until he finally saw me get to shore then drove over and rigged. He loved it!! It blew 16 one day and 18 the next day. He's coming back again he said for more. I guess he is doing some work out here and saw the lake with wind and wanted to have a go at it.
The best times are May-July. August can still be good, but the air heats up slowing the wind down. It's when the temps start to drop the wind comes. Wind is dead until about 4pm or 5pm into sunset, that's when the temps drop for the day and then the wind comes. 15-18 MPH winds are the norm from the NW. We do get the 20-25 at times too along with the 10-12 days as well, for foiling.
On the hot days, many of them have a 10-12 MPH breeze from 9am until about 1pm as the day is heating up, but then dies once the temps reach its high for the day and wind won't return in the evening on those days.
Also, lake looses water here and their through out the summer to the farmers to farm their lands. Lake can get real shallow around August- October. Like 2-5 feet deep in most areas. From experience, when it's that shallow, you can still sail, don't foil, but just sail back and forth from shore to shore, don't go up or down wind, because you will bottom out.. From early in the year like May to July, enjoy sailing the entire 22 mile 4mile wide lake. This is the first year I've seen that the lake is still pretty full in August. We had a late winter, so perhaps that's why. We do have some algea in the lake that starts in late June and stays for the summer. It won't hurt ya, and none of us have had any issue.
Wind turns South, after October and then snow hits around December, filling back up the Lake water again. Lake is no good then. NW is the only decent wind here. South and East winds are gusty and no good.
Lake freezes in the winter and thaws around Feb. Wind is hit and miss until May, then the NW winds kick in.
But I will say, this little gem of a lake here gets more consistent, steady winds than any spot I've sailed yet. I'm very impressed with the conditions and the layout of the lake. Here is a clear view of the launch area on Front St.
Thanks for the info about Klamath. I go through there on occasion, and it would be great to stop and windfoil it.
So, speaking of the downslope side of the Cascades for lakes, there are a number of good candidates. Starting from the south looking north, start with Klamath Lake. Then Odell Lake, Crescent Lake (they held a longboard national championships there once), Suttle Lake, then the Gorge, then Rimrock Lake, Kachess, Keechelus, and Cle Elum, then Lake Wenatchee and Lake Chelan. With a cross-mountain pressure gradient (cool west, hot east) all these lakes will turn on with great winds.
The Seattle sailors hit Wenatchee a lot. My "home water" used to be Rimrock Lake until I moved to the Columbia basin in eastern Washington state.

I believe it needs a housing

I brought an adventure back which came with a housing (you do need this), invisible stick, SC cards, housing lens replacement (they scratch pretty easily) and a short stick you hold, cases, cords etc. All up it was about USD 350.
