What's the sail model size, luff/boom? I'm down to 2.8m2 cypher Goya, the smaller the sail get and you still able to fly, the more amazing feel of freedom you get

On the video, you don't use harness lines, your stand is super loose. Why would you still keeping harness lines, harness and foot straps is beyond me... If you get rid of those, you'll be surprised how more free, mobile, natural your ride will be

I use the harness heading upwind. Didn't use back straps on Wyatt's gear, at home I use half straps on the rear. Free enough for now, May play with strapless later.

If you get mid to high aspect front wing, drag goes even lower and your angles improve. I used to race with formula/slalom gear in the past, so pretty tricky about gear, not pro of cause but not too bad... I don't see any lack of performance without harness or straps. If I was still using foil race gear, now those things still make sense in that world, but freeride wave foil with tinny sails, there's just no need for those extra things in my view

I've tried no-straps and straps and prefer the latter. My current set up is full front straps and rear half strap.

I've also subsequently moved the front strap to the outboard position and added extra pva deck pads

Quite a few foils whistle. In the case of AFS foils it comes from the trailing edge of the stabiliizer. Sanding can fix it, but never has for my AFS foil. What fixed it for me was to increase the down angle with a shim.

I think it all depends on how you want to ride. Gwarn has that "free, mobile, natural" style perfected and maybe that style suits no straps and no harness
Most of us in West Aus ride a more aggressive, powered up style that I have no doubt benefits from straps and a harness.

Thanks for the vids MrKeen. Looks like you had a great trip. Must have been cool running into some characters we only see online.
Have you tried a board with inboard straps? See if you can get hold of a SS Freestyle, Severn Predator or JP Foil Freak.

Thanks 2KEEN, it was a great trip.
I used the freestyle 87 on one of the windier sessions. Inboard felt better on this board as does on my gear at home. Outboard felt better on the Wizard. Think this is determined by distance to sail mast from front straps...

I did strapless for a while, but prefer being powered up all the time and have I more control with straps. Plus, no swell to ride here. There's no way I could do a 6 hour session without harness lines though.

Advantages and disadvantages to straps, for sure. Can't think of many disadvantages to harness lines...

Has anyone used the winging minimalist style of harness for wind foiling?

When I went to Baja last year I only took my Ride Engine wing harness to save suitcase space. Hated it for Windfoil. Not enough support or protection for that matter. The hard shell does a good job of protecting your ribs. I'll bring my windsurf harness next time for sure.

Edit: it was my RE Vianka.

Good info. I wondered about those minimalist harnesses for wind foil. Thanks.

I just ordered an Ion Rogue. It's almost a windfoil harness. Let you know how that goes after a few sessions.

I use the Ion Icon Curve. It doesn't look that much different from the Rogue.
