Hi
I've just changed from freeride Severne Alien 125 (75cm) & Redwing 1400/350 1000/250 to a Phantom x 85 & original Starboard race/slalom set 800/725/650/550 255tw 115 & 105+.Omg! So many variables!!!
Apologies if this has all obvious!
Is there any logical protocol hierarchy of adjustment?
eg everything in the middle:
-front wing
-foot straps first to get balanced take off & foot pressure in flight & gybes.
-tail wing angle to adjust lift/height balance back foot/front foot/mast foot
-mast foot for balance sailor/mast foot
-sail trim
-mast rake?
...
Or can foil size + tail wing angle adjust the balance?
What affects what? Or does everything affect everything omg haha!!
I seem to need quite a lot of back foot pressure?
I was flying all my gybes Alien/Redwing & Alien/Starboard 800 now I'm nowhere near!! Stalling & dropping out of the sky despite much more speed?
(It doesn't seem to carve & glide around the turn?)
I struggle to heel the board/foil across & down wind?
As I get more speed I get to a speed where I can't keep the foil from rising?
My speed has gone up a lot though!! Haha!!
Id be super grateful for any advice?
Many thanks indeed!!!!
Cheers!
Any luck on tweaking things? Or was it a matter of adjusting your riding to style to the racier gear?
Re the foil rising on race gear it seems like people use the harness much more than feet to hold it down. Also, I think big cammed sails offer more mast foot pressure and may be a neccesity to making race gear work
generally, racier gear requires more rider commitment; this includes the need to spend time to find the right settings that work for you in different conditions. it's part of the fun (for some).
to maintain control at higher speeds you need to increase downforce, most effectively through the harness lines. (and yes, race sails generate more downforce.) moving your front strap forward might also help here. heeling the board also, and is more effectively achieved with both feet in the straps (which in turn requires actively shifting your hips/weight in the harness to maintain control at variable speeds).
everything sort of impacts everything, but some things impact more. in general, the advice is always to only change one thing at a time...
