Chasing speeds thru the gybe works great on freeride windfoil kit - pushing the sail pressure into the mast base and "railing" the foil, feels like epic G's coming into the turn
max speed 24.4 knots
min speed 15.1 knots

25 knot easterly gust
Slingshot W114
Simmer Blackbird 720/255 cm2, neg lift on stab
Simmer Blacktip Legacy 4m

Curious what speeds others are getting?
Presumably IQ racers go through the turns a lot faster but maybe dampened out with their wide boards, long fuses & big cam sails ??

Just had a look at a recent track of mine.
Wind 15-20 knots.
Gear FoilX125, 4.0 freek, Sab Medusa pro769/ 399 stab.
Max speed on session 20.5 knots
Best alpha 17.9 knots, minimum speed was 15.2.
That said plenty of wider gybes with minimum speeds over 16.
Cant wait to push the 769 to its limit, just need more wind and skills
You are right Azymuth powered gybes and carves on small high aspect wings are epic

Sounds like you're enjoying the 769 Mr Keen. Might have to order one!

Got the 799 at the moment and love it but sometimes feels over-lifty at higher speeds and turn angles like when pushing really hard into a downwind 360. It's amazing that the 769 with much less area can perform in a similar way.

Smoking fast JJ.
My Max so far is 21 knots on the 730pfi/400 combo. Bearing off for the jibe is my favorite part. Sheet in hard and the torque sensation (for lack of a better term), when shooting to max speed is awesome. At those speeds the 730 is "locked in"
Like it's on rails for the turn. The sail is in "zero gravity" at that point. The dynamics of the whole process tickles the brain stem . I have yet to try any "speed wings". I suspect that will be another learning curve.

Think you should do yourself a favour and get the 769!!
My Max speed so far is smidge over 23 knots, there is more in it but ran out of wind. Foot pressure doesn't change the faster you go giving more confidence to push into turns.

You guys are great jibers.

I've been tracking minimum jibe speeds since it was added to GPS Speedreader. This was an example from my second session ever this morning with the older Starboard 550 front wing/105+ fuse and 6.0 sail in something like 15-20kts.

I wasn't really focusing on jibing, just trying to get the new sail/front wing sorted and get a new speed PB (23.8 kts for me today). But, I could tell that my jibes were faster than they were on other wings. I was burning a lot of speed after my runs during the downwind portion as it was feeling a bit sensitive to me and I wasn't used to it.

That said, those were my fastest mins at 12kts through the turns. The above data is showing I have a lot of room to improve .
Even with slowing down purposefully before the jibes I am still getting an alpha of 17kts or so.

On freeride gear, which recently has only been the ptm 926 on 7.0 and down, I can jibe clean without touchdowns sometimes but the speed is only about 10kts. On IQFoil setup with 9.0/900 it's similar for me, but a lot of the time on those two setups I am in fairly light stuff and trying not to get backwinded.

The experience on the 550 and 6.0 today was very different, with a very neutral feeling sail during the jibes but me feeling in a bit of an awkward position. I found myself sheeting out a bit too much during them but I didn't feel the heavy sail drag or foil drag that I usually feel on bigger stuff. A lot more glide with less resistance..until I touch the water anyway.

alphas on a foil are just the best... my PB was at Burrum this year so was super flat...
I've since done a few 21's but wasn't going as fast and it wasn't as flat...
once I learn how to foil faster I can't wait to smash those gybes at full tilt.

PB was with F4 620/100+3/210, JP150, Severne 7m M3

Hey this is cool stuff
Not sure if I am reading this right but does it mean you travelled 150+ meters over 15+ seconds through the jibe? I am guessing when you are going that fast staying on the "rail" that long must feel pretty cool.
Have you noticed a difference is speed through a jibe when carving down a swell/wave. Although I don't have any tech to verify it; it sure feels like the carves on smooth swells/waves have more speed than the ones on flat water but both are sooo much fun.

Haven't sailed much in last few years. Here's one from 2 years ago.
Entry speed 29/30knots min speed 17.8 knots. Always a great feeling banking it over at speed.

Smoking alpha Darryl, you need to get back out there, you were the Aussie benchmark and probably still are

Interesting discussion... I'm yet to crank out a 22kt alpha... :( and my minimum speeds are rarely 15 kts so work to do!

Here is my best gybe on the 400 front wing... minimum about 15.5 knots.

and here are 8 over 20 knots, with minimum speeds closer to 12 knots - on 660 front wing with about 10-16kts of wind.

Darryl that gybe of yours was phenomenal!

I did it! 22 knot alpha :) on my 32.5kt max speed day!

Very different gybe to Darryls!
14kt minimum ... well 13.9 for 0.2sec

400 F4 front wing... 6.1m CHS sail and 91wide FMX board.
