Hi windfoilers
I am new on your forum
my home spot is raglan nz
windfoiling for me has been a real game changer with the angles we can ride compared to windsurfing.
I have been windfoil riding for 5+ years
I use axis foils
i am 57 and 80kg
My second board was a wizard 125 and that was such a great board.
but after a few years the board delaminated
then i started building my own boards and went small down to 1.5 m long and now up to 1.75m to keep the nose up.
I really like the look of the v4 130L as a general all round board
the main thing I am looking for is just cruising /ripping in light to high wind.
I ride small sails
4.7-5.3 but have sails 2.5 to 5.5
What are the pros and cons between wizard 114 and 130
thanks for any advice
are there any wizard v4's for sale
130 pros slightly better low end 1-2 knots maybe, easier to slog and uphaul
130 cons will feel less snappy, more foam to deal with in rough water, tiny bit heavier
My vote would be 114 and maybe get a bigger foil to boost low end if you are struggling, as long as you can uphaul and slog a 100L fin board
I spent lots of time on the 114 my weight 84kg and always in a full suit for me the 114 was easy to uphaul and worked well in a lot of conditions now I am riding the 115 and to me it's a little bit harder to uphaul and demands more rider input. What I really like is the bottom carry handle like the V4 wizard has.
For your 80kgs, I'd recommend the 114. At 85kg, I can just uphaul my Predator 110 in swell and get going on a 5m in about 12kts. Can you test drive a 114 before you buy?
I tried to buy a Wizard V4 this year - no luck getting one in Australia. Maybe NZ will be better, I hope so. It annyoign Slingshot send you promotional material (Black friday sail) but they only sell in US and Canada. Contacted them but they couldn't help get the V4.
Ended up turning my old 125 (v1?) into a v1.4. Got Mark Australia to add tracks and a handle. Super happy, but maybe the 11 litres less would have been nice. Certainly saved me a lot of money!
