Hi everyone, looking at getting some second hand iqfoil gear and see that there is a V1 and V2 of the sails and masts. Does anyone know the difference? I can't find anything on this online.
Many thanks!

Probably not? There are a couple of new things on the way, but nothing remotely close to hitting the second hand market.
maybe you're thinking of the foil glide (youth hgo)?

I'm only aware of any marked differences in the v2 on the 8.0. I think both had some durability tweaks and the 8.0 had a lowered boom cut out. The v1 (which I apparently have) cut out is high enough that I, at 170 cm, pretty much has to put the boom at the bottom of the cut out even with a nose high boom. With the 8.0 being the men's sail as of 2025, it will be interesting to see where the cut out goes even though the sail is supposed to be unchanged.

Interesting to see that a proposal to beef up the masts was rejected since it didn't get the 2/3 majority required. I'm sure more than a few people since have scratched their head over that one.

Oof that's too bad. I can deal with the sail durability a lot better than the mast issues.

I follow a few IQfoil groups on FB (Europe based) and they often post used equipment there including 8.0s and I believe 9.0 HGOs specifying some are V1 or V2.
For masts, you can see v1 and v2s of the 530 for sale on online shops like boardwise.co.uk (for example www.boardwise.co.uk/collections/new-windsurfing-masts/products/severne-iqfoil-apex-mast-v2?variant=47168628457786) but the descriptions are the same so not clear the difference.

Wow, great job searching!

That would make sense. I heard the the changes make it easier to uphaul the sails, although not clear what that means. As I linked in the reply to Subsonic, there also seem to be v1/v2 530 masts, but no idea what the difference there is.

The proposal to strengthen the masts was indeed rejected, although it seems the idea was not that the factory would make stronger masts, but that competitors themselves could reenforce the masts, so not sure how useful that would be for normal folk anyway.

I decided to get into iqfoil as I though it would be simpler, but have to say that the more I look into it the more complex it seems to be getting :). It doesn't help that unless you are actively racing it's really hard to understand what it going on.

The main difference between the v1 and 2 is that the v2 has little drain holes in the luff sleeve all the way up. So when your luff sleeve is full of water and really hard to uphaul the water will drain out along the luff sleeve. There are basically just some gaps in the stitching of the luff pocket where it joins to the main part of the sail. Whereas with the v1 you have to get the tip of the sail out of the water before any water in the luff sleeve will start draining out.

its a great mod, but does nothing to change the performance etc of the sail. It has to be kept the same so racers can use v1 or v2 and still being a level playing field. If they were the same price I would definitely buy the v2. But not worth it if you can get a discount/ second hand v1 for a good price.

Yeah , there were some tweaks to strengthen things up. They did start adding re-enforcing to the clew eyelets because they were tearing out. As others have said no changes to shapes though, just re-enforcing. I guess the racers have anointed the changes as v2

Ben has been working on the new sails recently, so will be interested to see the new smaller size. Severne are bringing out a beefier 100% mast, but as others have said, looks like not for IQ.

Cheers Maddlad for the encouragement! I'm pretty positive still, working to keep it that way!
also - to come back on the masts, it seems that v2 masts have reinforced boom areas - so some good news there :).
Also if anyone is interested, the 9.0 stuff is going at half price some places in Europe since that's being discontinued.
