For 2017 there will only be four events. New Zealand, Hawaii, Tahiti and New Caledonia. We have had no confirmation from Aussie for an event yet but I look forward to having one possibly in 2018.
With what was another event to remember, we had ideal racing conditions in Maui for the second stage of the Pacific Windsurf Cup. From a gentle rustle in the morning, the quickly wind built to a steady 20knots all day with most racers using 7.0-7.8 sails all day.
The action across the fleet was consistent with some huge spills costing podium places across the different divisions. Yuki Sunaga (top female) took an over early in her opening race of the silver fleet costing her first place in the division finishing closely behind local legend Mike Yasak.
The gold fleet was littered with PWA sailors where Ross Williams took a strong hold on the racing ensuring Mateus Isaac and Laurence Carey would not take any glory from his fourth place word ranking. Mateus Isaac led Williams for one race until the last mark but due to a small spin out Isaac opened the door and Williams pounced taking the win, confirming four wins from four in the gold division. Dan Ellis, Peter John, Jack Holliday each followed closely showing some great starts putting some pressure on the top three. USA national champion Mark Boersma along with the japanese team - Yamada and Shinya took some great gybes sneaking on the inside of the first mark multiple times. It will be exciting to see them at the events to come as the competition heats up for the Pacific Champion.
The next stop is in Tahiti so stay tuned for more information.
