The silver collar on the extension sometimes catches the sail when releasing the downhaul. I've noticed in some pictures it shows a black collar which is a different design and looks better. Any info on this? Severnes site doesn't say anything and shows pictures with both the silver and black collars.
Not sure if you are doing this or not - just a thought.
Had the same issue. I now always turn up the bottom of the mast sleeve and never had an issue since (borrowed this image from someones previous post just for illustration).:
Most of my sails have sort of caught on the extension, many brands.
I've always just pushed the pulleys toward the mast as I let it off. That eases the luff tube tension against the front of the mast
Severne started putting the collar (and holes) on the angle a few years ago because of this. Is it a slightly older extension?
Holes On my extension are at an angle, about 20degrees from the front.I fold the mast pad up but nearly every time it catches on the hole on the top of the mast pad on my M2 where you put the uphaul through.
the black collar as it seems to be a better design but I've only seen it in pictures
the extension I have is probably 2 or 3years old
This is a pic from severnes site but all the extensions I've seen in the flesh and in most pics online show the silver collar
Even all the other pics on severnes site show the silver one

I've not seen a severne extension with that collar before. Maybe it's a redesign, maybe they've changed manufacturers. I've seen that collar on other brand extensions before, but not severne.
I've had the older extension, now have one with the off centre holes, so i can tell you the off centre holes fix the problem of the collar catching. Unfortunately that involves buying another extension
