This is probably a silly question, but which is the best way to attach the uphaul when the boom doesn't have the little hole in the head to thread a rope through. Got a new unifiber modular boom with the twin mast clamps, awesome boom but Ive never had a boom without the hole at the front. So only one of 2 ways I can think of.

1. Thread the mast through the uphaul loop above the boom or,
2. Attach to one side of the boom itself right next to the head.

Do any of you guys out there do it a different way?

Either works. But above boom inside boom arms so it doesn't get in way.

But can't you loop a thin bit of rope around/through the bottom black bit on the head?

How do you do that , thread the mast up luff and rope loop ?

Which bit & i meant to say thin rope or uphaul directly on boom head.

The ads show a hole in the bottom front piece of mast cup so id just put uphaul directly onto that, if it too thick or rubs on mast just loop uphaul around mast above boom down through inside boom arms.

Definitely no hole or slot to fit even a thin rope, threading mast through the top loop of outhaul rope sounds like the best way

Im pretty good with my water starts now, I don't use the uphaul much anymore, murphys law though, I bet the day I go out without one I won't be able to WS for some reason or another and then I'll be up s#!t creek

Make sure you've got a rope with decent size loop at top, maybe bit of tape to hold it at the top of the luff pocket to stop the rope going up inside I reckon, and just thread the mast through, I'll have to try it and see what happens. I wonder if the uphaul being a little bit higher will give a bit more leverage. I got a chinook easy uphaul that i haven't tried yet, looks good in the video just hook it to your harness and lean back using you're body weight instead of you're back

What are you threading mast through? After attach boom (or even before) wrap outhaul around mast & through it's own top loop. It won't slide down over boom clamp. It is not quite as good as uphaul point attached to boom head as the uphaul line more stretched but if you waterstarting most of time it's fine.

Excellent boom! I have got of these (170 and 140) for this season and been very happy with the choice. Looks like you missed the instructions printed at boom head box. There is clear place to attach uphaul rope. Has worked out perfectly for me.

If the boom head does not have a fitting or hole for the uphaul line, just loop it around the boom tube right next to the head. Yes, it is a little asymmetrical, but it works fine.
