NEWS FLASH
Up until yesterday, no one had sailed over 40 knots in Inverloch. Well we smashed that record as follows:
Kato 40.00knots peak (HE DESERVED TO BE FIRST)
Adrian (ADO) 40.6knots 10sec.
Adrian 43.5knots peak
Spotty 46knots peak and 43knots 10sec
Some bruised ribs, snapped masts, smashed feet etc to add to the injury list. Hope Kato gets well soon!
Sensational, remember sailing that place in late 80's, looking at the channels, and thinking it was potentially like sandypoint, but didnt quite have the mindset of a speedsailor in those days, fab stuff
It was fitting that the man who found Area 45 was the first to break 40 kts on Anderson's Inlet at Inverloch. Well done Kato. The Southerly Busters took it over as their home turf and I guess now we will have to put up with all the Pit Crew with their double bogie gear trucks, rigging babes, groupies and double decker power boats
The nice thing about this place is there are lots of unexplored areas that may give us a NM and that will work on other wind directions other than the Easterly we had on Friday.
The bugger about this place is you come off the speed channel straight into a deep water section that gets a diamond shaped standing chop pattern from wind and tidal movement. Have seen it standing 90 cm at times.
Well done to ADO and SPOTTY for smashing Kato's record.
I guess we have to set the bar at 50 kts now
It was D Day for Area 45, all this talk and still nothing over 40 knots, you narrowly got your glory Kato, your time was up! and not by much, lucky I take my time rigging up
.
My first Run at Area45 peaked at 41.4 at 12:11, then the rest 42.8, 41, 44, 44.36, 44.27, 44.89, 46.78, 43.7, 44.36, 43.6, 42.59, 43.
10sec's : 43.4, 43.09, 43.05, 42.89, 42.84
500m : 42.28
250m : 43.1
100m : 45.07
The run requires you to have as much speed as possible around 39 knots on the tight section before you bear off down the short run. I was surpised at the speeds, but the numbers including the 500 give this little run some cred'.
Will be fun exploring more of these channels in differant wind directions to get the best speeds Inverloch has to offer.
Awesome numbers Spotty, has probably got us all thinking about those spots that sort of look like they could have potential, but just haven't given a proper go.
