So, I've been sailing for 18 months and have just hit 30knots.
I'm heading to Sandy Point this weekend and am looking for advice on a new fin.
My small board is a 2008 Futura 122, which I use the stock 40cm Drake Swift. This fin is getting a bit rough.
I am wondering if a speed oriented fin would make much difference to getting over 30, perhaps 35 knots!
Being my small board it is used for everything over 25knots and gets a bit of a handfull over 30.
I need to be able to source one this week in Melbourne, so am looking at the C3 range.
I really have no idea of sizes or shapes, so any advice is greatly appreciated.
I'm 92kg and will be using 2012 5.5 or 6.6 HSM GPS
cheers
the 40cm sounds way to big for the 5.5 especially going downwind, at a guess at your weight I'd say about a 27. I'm 70kg and use a 23 to 25 with my 5.8
Have a look at a 36 or 38 venom, but I wouldn't go much small than that with such a big board. The ZU in St Kilda stock them
That's quite a big board for speed sailing... I'm also just hitting 30 knots (having only just arrived here and not had a chance to sail Sandy Point in a stiff breeze!), and have been using a 103 litre board with a 5.7 or 6.5 sail depending on the wind. My fin for these conditions would be 28 and 30.5 respectively (I'm 90 kgs).
You could look on the GPS speedsurfing site what people at similar speeds, sailor weight, etc are using for boards, sails, and also fins?
Yeah, its a bigger size than I would like but I have just bought a fair bit of gear and a new board will have to wait. I also am just getting used to waterstarting wide luff sails so the extra volume is a bit of a security blanket. Thanks for the advice.
