Recently swapped the battery in my GW60
I found an Australian supplier with a suitable option
Fits in the watch and my test run gives it about 6 hours 30min run time
Happy Days

Hi Tony,

Just saw this post. From our PM discussions, I went ahead and ordered a 602030 LIPO shortly after our PM discussions, with the intention of removing the piezo speaker from my unit in order to fit this larger battery (as per your idea).

www.ebay.com.au/itm/204079570271?var=504520682172

I have the battery, I just need to do the deed now, but waiting for one of my ESP-GPS-LOGGER units to get approved. I don't want to break my GW60 unit in LG season.

A note about the 602030 eBay seller (my link above). I received this battery wrapped in what looked like recycled alfoil from their lunch . They may as well sent this battery in a saline package. So, I don't even know if this battery is functional. They may have shorted it and popped the fuses. So, "I'll get back to you, Gene".

the 'recycled alfoil' that looks yellow is full spec anti static tape and you should NOT remove it. Protects electronics below from muggles thinking they know better. Your supplier is good.

Hi Flex. Battery was shipped to me in old crinkled up, standard aluminum foil sheet metal with no conform insulator. The yellow material at the top of the battery you are referring to is Kapton right ?. No it wasn't this. I was not removing battery enclosure. I wish I took a photo of it now.

Be awesome if the 300mah works and extends run time
Look forward to your report J

I fitted an over sized 602030 LiPO battery to my GW60 watch mid last week. Tested ok. 8.5 hrs uptime (in GPS logging mode).

tonyk contacted me via PM last November, asking me about LiPO battery technology. He mentioned the 602030 may be able to fit into the GW60 unit with the springs removed (Nb/ springs power the Piezo speaker). I though that was a great idea, so I ordered the battery.

After testing battery (due to the logistical issues mentioned above), I fitted it to my GW60. I scrapped off the piezo speaker, and desoldered the springs that powered the piezo speaker (the ground spring was very difficult to desolder). I then had to cut away more of the cover (using a dremel) to make battery fit. It's a tight squeeze, but I got it in there.

I cleaned up the mating surfaces with IPA, and cleaned the gasket with some damp tissue, and then lubed gasket with silicon grease.

Job done. Ready for George
