Does anyone know if tracking and speed info can be uploaded from Garmin Etrex 10?
I usually use it for geocaching but would like to start using it on the water if possible.
We have a yellow Etrex H10.
I had to use a connector called A10 or maybe A-ten, which would be still
lying about. I have noticed that their file which is a GPX is not very
compatible with KA72. Quite often unreliable.
According to the Garmin Specs it can save 10,000 trackponts. No mention of trackpoint interval so it could be, and most likely is, 'auto' (not accepted for GPS windsurfing) like older Etrex.
It almost certainly does not save Doppler data for speed calcs so even if you can set it to one second logging the accuracy would be 'trackpoint' accuracy, which is not really that good.
Thanks sailquik. I have tried it once (last Saturday). I set it on 'Trip computer' and it saved my top speed (41.6kph), average, distance etc. and track which is pretty much all I was interested in. I was hoping there was a way to save the data for my own interest. BTW it has USB connection.
Apologies if I am posting stuff that you already have the sorted but the usb data cable is available from Garmin on their website, and if you search the forums there is a posting from Elmo listing a few software options on the second page ( toward the bottom) of 'Ask a speed Guru' tab if that is of any help.
Yeah I also have a Etrex, might be a Venture that has USB connection. I use it on the mast in big font mode which my old eyes can read. It displays Distance,Average speed etc. But I only use the GT-31 for posting.
Lyndon, bring it down to the club next Saturday and we can have a play with it. If it can generate a GPX file then you can definitely use it to see Google maps etc of your data via the www.ka72.com website.
If you start posting 40 knot peak runs then we might need you to buy a new GPS! But for just cruising around formula sailing it should be fine. Geoff used to use a Garmin etrex before he bought a GT31, maybe chat with him. His biggest problem was that it didn't seem to record anything about 25 knots peak speed for him.
Look us up on www.gpsteamchallenge.com.au - Lake Macquarie team.
Cheers
James
Guys if you find out anymore info please post it as i have a e-trex 10 also.
it connects to the pc quite easy (standard $5 gps connection, same as Go pros and PS3 etc) and you do get average and tops speeds....
I have used it with sports tracks which tracks you quite well even on the free version, you can bring it up on Google also...
thanks
