I see there are some watches gone on sale with Rebel and JBHifi etc.
At Rebel Sport the Forerunner 945, Enduro Steel and Fenix 6 are all $500. About half price. Any idea which of them are better choice for speedsailing , using the datafield for team challenge etc?

I like the fenix 6. Been rock solid for a couple years now.
Other than the data question, it's worth knowing that apparently it doesn't have the ability to report doppler heading, but I'm not sure what watches would. Others on here have other devices that do have it, and can then analyze vmg/etc. really easily with GPS Speedreader. You can still go to Garmin Connect and download raw data and pull in 2s/10s/alphas but vmg without doppler heading isn't available. I still really like using both though, and find GPS speedreader to be very helpful when paired with it.
But you may not be interested in vmg at all, so maybe more useful to note for other readers.
Thanks for the replies, glad I asked... would've bought the basic fenix 6 not knowing it's not supported. Ill grab a foreunnr 945 before Burrum and try to work it out, Would have gone the Fenix 6 X pro but there arent any in queensland.

I use both the 245 Music and Fenix 5X. I made my own screens for on-water information and to upload to Connect. Easy to do.
The Fenix 5X has worldwide maps, which are sometimes useful in our sport. More useful for hiking or biking.

It's in the user manual. Cllick the return button to bring up built-in apps. Click down until you see "+ Add". Click that to make a new app. You can name it, add screens to it, and and populate each screen with any of the available built-in fields. The 245 Music and Fenix 5X both have dozens of fields. It is easy and takes all of ten minutes.
I made an app called Windfoiling. The first screen shows distance, max speed, and time of day. I display that while out on the water. The second screen shows actual speed, the third screen shows a map with the track. You switch between screens with the up and down keys. In Settings, among other things, you have to set the map to show GPS tracks, and you set the watch to upload to Connect via BT on your phone when you shut down the app. Of course, you have to have Connect installed on our phone.

Great info re app. Hv a fenix 6 and didnt realise you could get in deeper and make up your own combo. Gets some annoying extra screens coming up though if you push wrong button. Anyone getting a watch get one with physical buttons. I tried an HR first but once wet the screen behaviour was too erratic and the last thing you need is one hand trying to reset a watch while holding the boom with the other.
Yes, definitely get one with physical buttons. Touch screens are reported to be a problem for water sports.
I need to correct something I said. Instead of "app" the word is supposed to be "activity". Garmin documentation calls it "activity".
What about the Quatix? seems as it's designed for marine use, has built in sailing apps already. I have used one when I used to sail - back isn't playing ball atm.
