Hi Guys, ive recently started getting into speedsailing, what do you think is a normal harness line length? i have found the best lenght for me when blasting with a seat harness is 24' but i havn't seen hardly any other guys using lines that short. is it okay using lines that short or is there something spazy with my technique? ive tried 28' lines with a seat and i cannot fully commit weight to the harness without the boom disapearing! in waves when using a waist harness i use 30' or sometimes 28' and that feels perrfect. it seems strange that i have to use really tiny lines to feel comfortable with a seat harness
weight: 63-65 kilos
height:182cm
boom height: four fingers off the back of the board

hey Jason, have you joined up on GPS Team Challenge i saw your age on your profile was 15years be great to have you in the junior comp.

im 178cm tall and i find that 28'' lines are good for all round sailing, i sometimes use 30'' for speed sailing as i dont have to move the rig around as much and the trim of the sail is locked in.

I Have not joined the gps team challenge yet, but i am very interested in joining all i need to do is find a team that will be in their team. i have only bieng using a gps for a few sessions but my best speed so far is 29.97 kts and that was in very gusty choppy conditions using an isonic 86slim and a severne overdrive 6.7 i'm aiming for around 35kts+ by the end of the season.

I use 33 inch lines and find that allows me to get low and outboard, which gives me more leverage over the sail.
I think a lot depends on your seat harness.I have always been particular in choosing my seat so it draws its power from around my butt and not my lower ribs-like a waist harness,so I can really sit in it and use my whole upper body to apply pressure to a smaller loading zone in the harness which can translate pressure to the hook well.

i have 24 inch lines on one boom, 26 inch on my other boom. only sail slalom.

i tried 30 inch lines once, for about 2 hours, the result could not point upwind to

save myself and seemed to very fatigued. not too bad off the wind from memory

so for speed sailing deep off the wind may be faster.

with so much bodyweight off the board, lighter sailors may have the problem of

excessive board lift.

taller, heavier blokes can make longer lines work, many of the PWA sailors use long

lines.

for slalom 24 -26 is right for me, formula 8m plus 26-28 , speed sailing deep off the

wind 28-30.
