It's on again!
I have started work on the annual Burrum Heads pilgrimage event.
Full sponsor details and prizes will be posted as the details are confirmed.
Categories for this year will be similar to the previous event.
Once again we are running
Radar racers class,
Gps class with the following divisions.

Major prizes will once again be lucky draw.
I would also like to welcome local Geoff R to the management committee to help make the event even bigger and better for 08/09. Geoff brings decades of local and national experience to the table.
This year's event will also be combined as a WindWanderers travel meet. Burrum has a lot to offer, for those serious about going very fast and for those looking for a party and some quality bump and jump conditions.

News Flash:Jetstar have $39.00 airfares from Sydney to Fraser Coast from 3march-1April. On sale until midnight Tuesday 17 February.
Hi Gestalt, a couple of questions.
1)Is there any need to register beforehand or is just turn up and sail
2)For the GPS division is there an onsite computer for uploading tracks to.
Cheers Phil
Hi Phil,
i will upload the forms tonight onto the website. you could either fill them out before hand email back or bring them along to the event. my preference would be via email so i can build a list of competitors but on the day is ok also.
we will also have a computer with us for uploading of files. i will have a garmin lead and a card reader their.
cheers
justin.
sign on forms for the event can now be found at the following address.http://www.caloundrawindandsurf.com.au/Speedcomp.htm

looks like this year is going to have a large crew attending the event. for those wanting to free up the sign on process forms can be emailed back to me at windwanderers"@"netspace.net.au

Justin.
Maybe you should change the date to this Monday/Tuesday?
Anyone know where I can get some cheap airfares from Melb?
latest news.
new sponsor joins in.
Dylan at www.ka72.com/ has signed onto the list of event sponsors.
Dylan is building a portable version of his online software for use at the burrum event.
cheers
Dylan.
great stuff.
hi guys,
some more info.
regards pfd's
All sailors shall wear above the waist a jacket, harness, or vest with a minimum buoyancy of 4kg uninflated, in fresh water. The buoyancy shall be tested with a ferrous metal weight of 4kg, which shall remain supported for a minimum of 5 minutes. It is recommended to be at least a Type 2 PFD under Australian Standards of Safety Equipment.
entry forms,
entry forms will need to be printed and filled out. they can be scanned and emailed to me or sent via fax. i will post a fax number monday night.
some more great news guys,
Sunshine Coast Sailboards have come onboard to join the list of sponsors for the event.
cheers to Dieter and the guys
also at this stage forecast for the event is looking solid with 20-25 knots on the cards.
i think almost everyone has a lifejacket.
if not mine can be borrowed.
it's a KA one.
wanted to also add, my understanding is the conditions above qualifying minimum boyancy are standard for all type 2 jackets.
if not i'll ammend them to suit. however for the event life jackets are required as it forms part of the approval conditions that maritime safety prefer.
another update,
more good news on the sponsors front as MFC fins have come onboard with sponsorship for this year event.
A big thanks to MFC for their support.
also,
i have been in regular contact with the local guys and they tell me that the wind is still blowing. some competitors are already up at the strip enjoying the conditions. currently speeds have been hovering around 33-35 with a 37 approx being recorded today.
forecast for the weekend is for stronger winds again, so things are looking good. saturday will hopefully see 25 knots blowing down the bank.
cheers
Justin.
just about to hit the road,
will see everyone up there,
if anyone needs to make contact with me i will be at the burrum sands "speed HQ"
cheers
Justin.
post event update.
a little bit of house keeping.
Refunds - during the signon we reduced the windwanderers component for those that needed to access the AWA insurance, so a couple of people paid $40 for the insurance. please send me an email and i will refund the other $20 asap.
also there are about 3 people that require $10 change, i will forward a cheque asap.
making next years event even better -
for next year everything will remain the same, barge, smiles, parties etc.
but with a couple of small additions we will try to achieve.
- we will look towards adding additional classes for, masters (>60) 5x10, youths (<21) 5x10 sec and women's NM division.
- competitor packs will be arranged including a PWA style flouro wetshirt for keeping which will also help identify competitiors on the course.
- cash prize for first places for both open and womens classes (5x10 sec)
- additional flags on the bank to highlight either port tack or starboard tack course direction.
- renting of the house beside the burrum sands to allow permanent rigging and storage area for competitors gear and to increase the size of "Speed HQ".
also a heads up to all of the wide bay residents, tomoorows edition of the fraser coast chronicle will run some coverage of the event in the sports section.
plus i have asked 9 win for a copy of the sports news they aired. they agreed to send something through so i will make it available once it arrives. will talk with channel 7 tomorrow hopefully.
