Possibly tomorrow, anybody?
will the tide be high enough?
I just went down and checked Fangy's. There is a substantial weed bank showing the entire length And quite wide at the eastern end as well. The tide is low atm. There will be some tidal surge, but it is certainly looking as though it will be on the low side. I would expect the same at Yunderup and Boombas side.
willy weather shows .9m at 10am dropping to .5m 530pm, so later in the day may be a problem. Trouble is that's when the wind is forecast to be at it's best.
There's plenty of weed about so a short delta style fin is probably needed anyway.
Good question Annita, most of the times I've been there it's during a storm, and surge has been so big, the water's come over the road, and the tide has been a bit too high.
I guess it depends on your fin, but I can't give you any numbers.
As Fangy says storm surge is a big factor, but I can't find any predictions for tomorrow, at the moment it's close to neutral.
However, meteye is showing the pressure dropping a tad through the day, and the onshore wind may help as well, so who knows?
It's a long drive, and only 15kts forecast, but if it's mirror flat and sailable, it's worth it in my book.
Possibly tomorrow, anybody?
The Fin and I had a great time, tide at approx .7m just about right. Not as glassy as Shane's vid, but very flat all the same.

Tide at 0.7m on which table?
If you haven't got these already Windxtasy, here are the tide time tables for Peel Inlet taken at the Science Platform (page 91-92), which is close to the middle of the estuary. Add another hour for Fangys and Boombas. These are the most accurate, but because both spots are highly influenced by storm surge, barometric pressure and prevailing wind, use them as a rough guide only :-)

As a rudimentary guide, whatever the tide height is, that is roughly the depth of water over the outer bank at Fangy's.
Storm surge is historical (updated day after) but gives a good trend indicator:

Here's my tracks from today. The tide around .5m, 17cm fin grounded at the end of my tracks on the reef, plus hit a few rocks as I was going over it.
The reef looks just like a shallow sand bank, but doesn't feel anything like a sandbank when you hit it!!!
