I'm having trouble with opening the file. What should I be using to open it?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers.
Locosys have done a great job, they have pretty well maximised the capabilities of the hardware and tried hard to accommodate our requests for functionality. It's not the perfect device, it has battery and memory buffer limitations. But it's waterproof, accurate and when set up properly gives feedback on the water for 2sec, 5x10, alpha, 500m, distance and time.
I've saved my watch setup configuration file. The new utility gives you the option to upload an existing configuration. If you are interested in a copy of my config file for your watch, PM me with your email address and I'll,send it to you.
Got it!
Thanks Bearhoover. Thanks decrepit.
What a stuff around! Found the right software, but in doing so, installed another one which wouldn't let the appropriate com port work without purchasing "their" driver update. Uninstalled that, and Bob's your Uncle.
There's several hour's of my life I'll never get back.
Cheers,
Dag.
P.S. Just opened the new utility, and it's beautiful. A better GPS watch now!
Unfortunately we don't know all the people who had input into the development of the latest firmware.
John and I have been the most obvious on this forum. But I know Tom Chalko had a huge input into the Alpha division.
Ben Wilson helped with John's efforts to get a real time display included. It was sikemrex's idea to include the "LOG DELETE ?" warning. All the team captains that gave suggestions to John. Daffy suggested the Satellite data be included on the first screen.
Sorry if I've forgotten anyone/thing, feel free to remind me.
just downloaded the new firmware. All went well. However even though I have set the watch to read 12 hr time, I am sitting here at 12.10 AM and the watch says 0.10am. I have connected to GPS so it locks onto satellites and then turned it back off. And yet it still stays on what I can only see as 24hr time. I know I'm being pedantic as I doubt I will ever be looking at my watch in the small hours of the morning such as this but I'm just annoyed that it's not updating properly.
Anyone else had this issue?
That is really weird, looks like a strange combination of the 2 formats, what happens when you get past the early morning 12s? Does it look like normal 12hr format then?
Don't know if this has been covered but found out the hard way. If you do not sail for a long period, 6 weeks, in my case, the battery will drain down to a point where the watch will not switch on. Be warned.
Kazza. You can certainly 'download' the firmware update files from the locosys website on a Mac. But if you mean, 'uploaded' or 'install' into the GW60? No it can't. You need a Windows computer to do a firmware update (or a Windows virtual machine installed on your Mac).
To tell the truth, I have not bothered updating to the Alpha firmware yet. I am happy with the max speed, 10 sec speed and History Max of both in the original firmware, but then I also use GPS-Logit which gives me feedback on ALL the divisions, except 1Hr, and also shows my running 5x10 sec average. I guess I will get around to it eventually.....
If you have the GW52 utility you can turn them off with that. Hopefully it will then turn back on when you plug it in to a usb socket.

yep, mine displays 24hr no worries.
But I guess that's not the question you want answered????????????
At the bottom of the first settings column in the utility is a little square entitled, "TIME FMT" just change that to 24hr
Plugged the watch into the computer to update the latest software, now the light is stuck on and there's no display. Damn
Think I'll stick with my gt31.
Yes, I think what he meant was the battery was so flat it wouldn't turn on. I'm sure once plugged into power it will come straight back on.
