Plugged the watch into the computer to update the latest software, now the light is stuck on and there's no display. Damn
Think I'll stick with my gt31.
Shouldn't be too hard to recover it Paul. If you like bring it around here, and I'll have a go.
Hi Mike, thanks. I let the light stay on till it drained the battery down a fraction. The light went out, so I then reconnected to the computer and it reset itself. Cool. Now letting it fully charge, so I can upload the new firmware. Although the system updater states that the boot loader is missing? Ever heard of that? Wondering whether to redo the original firmware update..
Would one not always charge the watch/GPS before use
I suppose at this stage, Heisenberg needs to clarify what he wrote. I took what he said is that the product bricks itself once it's battery goes flat (ie: you can't charge it up, or power it on - ever. Throw it in the bin).
What happens if you don't use for awhile, and I can't remember how long that is, the watch goes to sleep where button pushing makes no difference. As Decrepit said, all you have to do is connect back to power, just a couple of seconds does the trick. You'll find the watch isn't flat, all good

That would be extremely unlikely.
It was fine once recharged. I was just surprised that after a relatively short period of 6 weeks, the watch had 'drained'. Having previously used the gw52 and gt11 I have never had this problem, hence the reason why I did not charge before going out. I made the comment so no one else makes the same mistake. I always thought the Li-ion batteries held charge well but maybe not the case here.

Locosys, advise making sure you have a good cable connection, try the utility first, if there's no file to download, try altering the settings. Any sort of dicey connection will cause trouble, once it's updating don't disturb it at all.
A lack of boot loader means it shouldn't work at all.
I've emailed you a guide

Pretty sure, he did mean it will run itself flat after an extended period of not being used, even after being fully charged and left switched off. I've had it happen with mine, but I assumed that I'd left it sitting in a position where the mode button was being pressed on.
i always make sure it's charged now. You live you learn.
Well.. there's me creating rumors again ! thanks decrepit for the tip. I must have missed it when I was looking at the utility settings
Big thanks to Decrepit for helping with my gw60, and it only took him about 30 seconds. It sure helps if you're not a complete numpty when you set things technical up on the computer. An incompatible installer didn't want to install a program that had no chance of being recognised. Now the correct software can work in conjunction with what the programmer had no idea the installer didn't know!! That would be my Maxwell Smart understanding of what happened.
So, if you're passing my house and you hear the words, "DON'T TOUCH IT!", you'll probably guess who's talking to whom.

That's the problem, It's not "switched off" it's only asleep, to switch it off you need the GW52 utility, that has a power off button.
I've no idea how much doing that extends battery life, but you have to plug it back in to wake it up anyway, so just plug it in a few hours earlier to make sure it's charged.
It was a good prank Sean !
BTW: Decrepit sorted me out with the 24hr time. I upgraded to a beta firmware and I had the TIME FMT option on the watch. That's D :)

Have just purchased a GW60 from Surf Sail Australia (Thanks Mark ) & have managed to update it to Firmware V1.2A0314B which I think is the latest version.
Would it be possible for one of the Guru's to please post a screenshot of their Settings from the GW60 Utility, so this numpty can get an idea of how to do an initial set-up. Post Nightshift brain struggled to do the update, let alone contemplate setting up an unfamiliar device Thanks

Tell you what mate,
I'll email you my config file, you can test how easy it is to use. I assume you hit the "Restore CFG" button and browse to the file.
And if that doesn't work, here's the util with my settings.
Thanks Mike that was very painless to do & only takes a few seconds
Method was as you suggested, download the config file to your computer, press the restore config on the utility, find the file & select it. New config then loads on the Utility, only thing I wasn't sure of was whether pressing the update button would then be required. I did use the update button just to be sure.
Just note, that the 10kts on the speed genie setting is what I use for alphas, (lower than my minimum gybe speed), when exclusively speed sailing I up that to around 27kts, (slower than my downwind speed but faster than my upwind speed).
May I ask a question - to clarify things for me regarding the speed genie? - The speed genie is merely what calculations are done on the unit itself (and displayed) but the data points are always being recorded. Is that correct?
So this would mean that in your speed sailing - 27kts example, decrepit that while your alphas would not be displayed on the watch screen, it would still show when you up loaded your file and it was processed. Is that correct?
BTW - thanks for your input - it certain helps me to get my head around different aspects.
Yes, the Speed Genie is a running calculation and report of some of the divisions which are set up in it
The GPS device records all the raw data in memory for download and analysis later in whatever software you choose. All your results can be calculated from this data.
When Decrepit is speed sailing and has the Genie speed set at 27 knots, his Alphas would not be displayed.
When Decrepit is speed sailing and has the Genie speed set at 27 knots, his Alphas would not be displayed.
Unless of course by some magic means I don't drop below 27 knots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There's also a limitation in the watch, it can't process alphas that are under 300m in length, some alphas may show up in your software that don't appear on the watch display.
Does anyone have a link for this setup utility GW60AR UTIL V1.5A0310A? Only the earlier one VER1.1B1021B is on the Locosys website.
The new utility installer is included in the following dropbox, set up by locosys for the new firmware

I picked up a GW-60 yesterday. Recorded a test motorcycle ride to work (hey it double demerits so I was being careful) and uploaded a private entry to KA72. I could see lots of numbers with decimal points and a "share to GPSTC" button so that looked good. No sign of the Alpha Gybe thing which is the only thing I'm good at. Have I missed something?
What do you mean by "alpha button"? I've no idea what you are talking about. If you mean getting alpha results on the watch you need the alpha firm wear. John has posted the link to it back in this thread and in the Burrum Windfest thread
I'm still working though the earlier posts and learning.
I went out on the mountain bike and rode up and down the street turning in gybe-like fashion. I uploaded to KA72 and it showed an Alpha 500 (kts) entry. I guess I'm good to go if we get some wind tomorrow.
